Hello everyone, and welcome back to another edition of The Admin Corner!
As we slowly make our way through Term 2, there is some important information to be aware of surrounding the School Saving Bonus (SSB), and in particular the closing of the SSB portal.
The Department of Education has announced that the School Saving Bonus portal will close on the 30th of June, 2025.
After this date, you will no longer be able to access your child’s portal, and any unspent funds will automatically be allocated to our school to be used against any upcoming eligible school activities.
An important note: Your child’s school saving bonus funds will not expire on this date. There is no expiry to these SSB funds, as these will be able to be used from the school on an ongoing basis, for as long as your child attends a government school. This includes any transfer to a government high school, or another government primary school, should funds remain.
A second, important note on this process: The department has indicated that from the closure of the portal, an expected delay of at least 4-6 weeks is anticipated for these unspent funds to be made available at the school level. During this period, unspent funds may not be accessible for use.
In order to avoid any disruptions with the above delay, the Department, as well as our school, is suggesting the following. Once you have completed any uniform purchases you anticipate making with these funds, we suggest making a school activities allocation from the portal, at your earliest convenience, for the remainder of these funds. This ensures that there is as little disruption to the use of your SSB funds as possible.
An important side-note: As the SSB portal only allows you to allocate across funds in $50 parcels, it is possible you may only be able to allocate across most, but not all of your remaining funds. These remaining funds left in the portal will still be made available to the school, but just at this anticipated later date.
By making a final allocation prior to the 30th of June, 2025 (and ideally as early as convenient), you will ensure that your child’s SSB funds remain readily available to use for school activities without interruption.
Until the portal closes, we will continue to send out reminders as activities are coming up, so you can make any allocations to school activities from the portal that you wish, in order to cover these activities. Following the closure of the portal, and once all unspent funds have been allocated to the school, we will simply apply these funds to the next eligible excursion as they arise, until these funds are exhausted, or sent off to your child’s next government school. If you would not like a particular event to be covered by your child’s SSB, we ask that you please let us know at that time. As always, sibling’s SSB funds can be used to cover another siblings activity, and this is something you would need to contact the school to arrange.
If you have any questions with any of the above, or need assistance with the SSB portal, please contact our office at 9802 9938, email glen.waverley.ps@education.vic.gov.au, or visit us in person.
We hope you have a lovely rest of your day!
