Year 3&4 ACMI Excursion

On the 27 of July 3TR and 4AA went on an excursion to ACMI near Fed square.They use a lot of technology. We had to wake up early to get on time on the bus. And the bus leaves at 9:00. It took like half an hour to get there. It was in a city where there were big buildings. When we got there the building was huge!!! We went inside the ACMI building there were people they gave us special cards to tap with and that is where they make animations. Then we ate snack and there were so many stairs!!! We heard the AusAlert when we were waiting with Mr Ruyg and near the ACMI building there was a river called the Yarra River. And Mr Ruyg told a story about the Yarra River. He told us about the Yarra Yarra which was once a waterfall. He told how some people a long time ago some people destroyed The Yarra Yarra and then we ate lunch.

My favourite part was when we made animations with LEGO with Amber and Emma. For example, we did a 3,2,1 animation. It was a warm up. It was so much fun using Dragonframe, learning about frames and taking a tour of the ACMI. We saw some animations those special card to tap with and when you go on the website there is a code on the back of the card then you can learn all about it like who made it how was it made or why is it made that is what you search and learn all about it and playing the games there.

I learned all about animations. You can use more than LEGO to use for your animations, when you work together it will be better, it is not about perfecting your animation it is about having fun with animation and learning about dragonframe and frames. I learned even more then that it was fun doing animations at ACMI.

We had a lot of fun on the excursion. I am going to ask my dad to take me to ACMI again. The other excursions to swimming were very short ride on the bus but this one was FUN!!!

On Monday the 27th of July in the morning, 3TR and 4AA arrived at ACMI (Australian Center Moving Images) . First 3TR did LEGO animation and 4AA did the tour around the museum, the lego animation was so much fun. My classmates and I did the LEGO animation before 4AA. Everyone had a group of three but there was one group of four after we sorted our groups of three or four.  We began to make the count down three to one. I did my count down with my friends Evelyn and Sithumi. When you finish the count down your group does something that goes really really slow. My group made a snail that is going in it’s shell .

One of my favourite parts was the LEGO animation because I did it with two of my friends but my most favourite part was … THE TEACUP MOVIE ZOETROPE!!! It was the coolest thing I have ever seen. It blew my mind when I saw it! It was at the movie section of the museum, aka one of the coolest parts of the museum apart from the game section, the best section ever because it was so  fun to play the video games but that wasn’t my favourite part; the zoetrope and the LEGO animation was my favourite.

I learnt about something that wasn’t in the museum cause it was the… The AusAlert was at  two a clock when the AusAlert rang and a notice went on Mr Ruyg’s phone but not just my teacher’s phone, everyone’s phone had a notice. If you didn’t know what the AusAlert is I’ll tell you what it means. If there is an emergency, it was just a practice run.

I loved visiting ACMI. I’d love to come again to ACMI with my friends or family because I loved learning about history and I loved seeing the Yarra river from ACMI.

On the twenty seventh of July the Year 3TR and 4AA classes went on an excursion to the Australian Centre of Moving Images (ACMI). Acmi is all about technology. We went on a forty five minute bus ride to Federation Square. When we arrived at ACMI we went into a room called a foyer with red couches.We put away our bags in a cupboard and got ready to learn to animate. Some instructors named Amber and Emma brought everyone in Year Three into a room with computers on  the tables.Everyone sat on the floor. The people who worked at ACMI showed us a video of LEGO animation. We got put into  groups of three and one group of four. In my group there were Nemin, Shavin and me. We were told to open the screen and make a countdown made of LEGO. We were using a software called DragonFrame. 

Everyone was told to make something that is slow so my group made a fish, next we were told to make something fast and shattering so my group made a lightning bolt. When we finished the shattering things we were allowed to make free for all. After that we were allowed free for all. At the end everyone handed theirs in and they were made into a clip. In the clip there were things like snails. We were in the foyer at two o'clock and we had the AUS Alert. Afterwards we went to grab our bags so we could eat lunch. While we were eating we learned a little about the Yarra river. The Yarra river used to have a waterfall at the end where the salt and freshwater met. It became brackish when some people blew up the waterfall  with dynamite, so they could drive their boat further up the river, so they could see what was at the other end of the river. When we finished our lunch we went to the museum and we got a card which we used to scan a little symbol. In the Museum there was a machine that made me dizzy because it was spinning really fast, they also had stuff talking about zoetropes. Before we left we were allowed to play the games. I played a game called Isopod. After Isopod we were allowed to collect stars on these boards. On my card I had sixty seven  stars. At the end we went on the bus again. I played a game on the bus where you have to name every car brand you know if you see it on the road. Finally we got back to school after a great time at ACMI.  

My favorite part of the excursion was going into the museum and playing a game called Isopod. Isopod is a game where you are a bug and you have to go over pits of spikes, over streams of pollution and kill other animals so you can complete the tasks. One of the tasks is to close all of the three pipe valves. I also liked LEGO animations. It was so much fun. It was the best. 

I learnt that there can be at the lowest can be eight frames per second. I also learnt how to animate and that they actually take pictures and then put them together to make films, Also that working together makes things quicker. I didn't know you can animate with lego either.I didn’t know that there was a software called DragonFrame.

I really want to come to ACMI again because there is so much you can learn about.Also I really liked playing all of the different games on the machines. There is a really cool car that I want to come back and see.I also want to come and play with this thing where there are lots of different tiles with one to four words on them and you have to try to make a long story. It was so much fun at ACMI.

I woke up on Tuesday morning, ate my breakfast and went to school with only one thing in mind: “Today is an excursion, I can’t be late, no later than 8:25 am". I got on the bus at school and a miracle happened, unexpectedly, I got to sit with my best friend, Michael! We started talking straight away, without a second thought. After 45 minutes, we arrived at ACMI, the Australian Centre of Moving Images. We put our bags in a locker and then some ACMI staff led us to the Stop Motion Workshop , where we created our own animations in groups. 

When we started creating the animation, we learned how to use the app called Dragon Frame, which uses a 'frame by frame' process that every other app uses too. I found out that the group I was working with was Yanik, Xavier, and me. We had to create an animation out of pieces of lego that started with a 321 countdown. Our animation was a stick figure falling on to a number 3, which then got bounced up, then fell  down on a number 2 and then got side tackled by a number 1. At the end of our Stop Motion video, the stick figure fell down with a THUD! And then we created images of a balloon bursting.

After the animations, we went to have lunch in Federation Square. There were seagulls everywhere. We tried to chase them away if they got close. We were determined to keep them away from everybody's food. 

When we finished lunch, we went over to explore the museum. My favourite part was the explanation of how video games are made and then we got to play some video games. My favourite game was Isopod, a game that turns you into a  pill bug, like a roly poly bug. The game was launched in 2025. After all that it was time to head home. We packed up our stuff and went back to school which took another 45 minutes. Later that evening I was sitting in my bed, thinking about my day. It was such an exciting day.
