Year 6 District Girls Football

On Monday the 27th of July, the Year 6 girls competed in division interschool sports. It was an amazing day,and everyone had heaps of fun for us.

On the day our parents were required to drop us off at 9:00am at Lum reserve so we could settle in and have some practice and then start games at 9:30am. At Lum Reserve, there are two ovals so the girls were on one oval and the boys were on the other. The people running the day had split both ovals into halves with a bit of room on the sides.

Our team started their first game at 10:00am and played for half an hour, after our first game we immediately started our second one which ended at 11:00am after we had a break and started our last game at 12:00pm. The day ended at 2:00pm because finals were still going.

The Year 6 girls played against three other schools and unfortunately won one game only but it was a very good experience for the footy team. We learned how to work together and be a team player. We also learned other skills like how to kick a footy ball and handball one as well. We were lucky enough to have one of our teachers who is also an AFLW player, coach us so we had the opportunity to learn a lot of new and good techniques from her.

On the day we played three other schools, they were Huntingdale Primary school, Jells Park Primary school, and Mount Scopus. Our first game against Huntingdale, we won 16-2, which was a great game to get our confidence up. Unfortunately, we lost our second game against Mount Scopus, the score was 11-4, though we lost we played amazing footy. Finally our last game against Jells Park was again an unlucky loss, the score ending 19-9. Though the scores in some of the games didn’t go our way we still had  some amazing talent on display.

We are so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be able to play in a division in inter school sports, and be able to have a girls team win it at district as well. It was such a fun day and we were very proud of how far we had come.
