R.E. NEWS

First Confession Information & Enrolment Evening

Our First Confession information & enrolment evening will be held on Monday 19th February at 5.30pm. The information session will take place in Mary Help of Christians Church and will be facilitated by Father Roel. Some child care will be available in the Parish Hall to ensure as many families can come to meet Father Roel and hear all about the Sacrament of Confession and to enrol for the Sacrament.

School Leaders Induction

Our School Leaders for 2024 will receive their badges and blazers at a special Mass next Tuesday 20th February at 9.30am in Mary Help of Christians Church. An email was sent out earlier in the week to parents of our Sports and School Captains. We hope you can come to celebrate this special occasion with us.

First Sunday of Lent

During Lent we focus on simple living, prayer, and fasting in order to grow closer to God. In this first week of Lent, we are encouraged to increase our moments of prayer. This may be as simple as having a family prayer before meals or attending Mass on Sunday. Here is short clip all about Lent.

Project Compassion

During Lent, we try to think of others, especially those less fortunate. Project Compassion is a wonderful program run by Caritas Australia, to raise funds for communities in need. On Ash Wednesday, each student brought home a money box for families to make donations throughout Lent. These will be collected at the end of the term. Each classroom will have a donation box, to encourage students to help those in need.

LIBRARY NEWS

NSW Premier's Reading Challenge

We are very excited to give the students at St Edward’s Primary School the opportunity to participate in the 2024 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge. This is a proud tradition at St Edward’s and every student is invited wholeheartedly to participate.

Every student at the Infants Campus will automatically be signed up to the Challenge and read books from the Challenge as part of their class and library sessions.

Primary students wanting to participate in the Challenge will need to complete the online form.

The Challenge aims to encourage in students a love of reading for leisure and pleasure, and to enable students to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge for each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. There is an age appropriate list of books that participants can choose from to read (also be read to) and if they experience the required amount of books they will receive a special Premier’s Reading Challenge certificate.

The Challenge begins on Monday 26th February and runs until Friday 23rd August, 2024.

PLEASE NOTE!! Any books on the list that your child has read (or you have read to your child for K - 2) over the summer holidays can be counted for this year’s Challenge.

Further information can be obtained from the following website:

https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html

If you are interested in registering your child / children for the Challenge, please complete the online form by Monday 26th February. We will then send home any further information necessary to log in and get started.  Replies later than this date are not a problem, as you can start any time but the closing date remains the same.

Library Lovers Day!!

This week students at both campuses celebrated Library Lovers Day. The Primary Library was bursting with love with students making and decorating the library with red paper hearts, and some lucky students to go on a "Blind date with a book!"

At the Infants we made red heart bookmarks to use when reading our most loved book.

In keeping with the Library Lovers theme, students got to listen to a timeless love story as part of their Library session "Roald Dahl's Esio Trot".
