Partnership Profiles

We know that children need a sense of connection with Educator's to support the development of their identity and social and emotional competence.  Being that the children have the opportunity to engage with our team as we learn together and alongside one another, we appreciate that parents don't always have the same opportunity to get to know each Educator.

At Curiosity, we are blessed to have a stable team of dedicated and passionate Educators who offer the sense of security that children need to feel safe and explore themselves as learners.  Over the coming months, we will be presenting to you each teams profiles to get to know our Educators a little more.

Introducing Miss Shelly Collins

My name is Shelly Collins and I have always loved working with little people, going as far back as when I first started teaching Sunday School at my local church in my late teens. I am now in my 28th year working with the preschool age group in kindergartens as a teacher and now at Curiosity Early Learning Centre. I have a strong personal growth mindset and for me, the early years present me with an avenue where I can continue to learn as children’s contexts change, and where I can develop and refine my own theories of learning.

I love that I can apply a child’s natural wonder in ways that do not have to be confined to one way of learning, where questions can formulate explorations and where learning is as much fun for me as it is for the child. I see play and inquiry as a vehicle for great learning, and where creativity in the presentation of learning contexts is child centered and flexible in their nature and design. I also love learning from my colleagues, so together we can collaborate in this space and use our individual skills to complement one another.

I especially love developing deep connections with children and their families. I love the sense of togetherness that I feel towards our young learners, it is a truly wonderful privilege. I love hearing the laughter that echos in the learning environment and seeing their smiles as children engage in self-discoveries with excitement. I enjoy sharing my passion for music and song as a learning tool, as well as my love of books and storytelling.

I love the satisfaction this work gives me, professionally and personally and I feel blessed that I can incorporate my faith as part of my teaching and learning in this place with an amazing and dedicated team. For me, it is a place of wonder, joy, and great passion which makes my heart sing.

Introducing Miss Phoebe Armitage

Hello everyone! My name is Phoebe (known as Miss Phoebe) and I am an Educator at Curiosity. As I go into my final year of my Early Childhood teaching degree, I feel blessed to be able to apply this theory I learn at university to be able to create a learning environment which puts your children as the uttermost importance, to ensure they feel safe and a sense of belonging here. I believe that the development in the early years sets children up not only for further learning, but shapes their identity as they discover their interests, strengths and challenges. As a 17 year old in 2020 whilst completing my placement at Curiosity, I found that early learning is where I am meant to be. I love being part of your child’s learning journey and being a person they can trust.

As an educator, I endeavour to create a supportive environment where students feel empowered to express themselves and collaborate with peers. My approach is to be responsive to the diverse needs of each child, recognising all children have different strengths and challenges as a learner. I strive to create an environment that is supportive of all children so that each child has the right to participate. I view every one of your children as competent and capable and I find much joy in coming to Curiosity to observe your children explore, make connections and navigate ‘life’ as they make new discoveries.

I am always welcome for a chat and look forward in partnering with you and your child this year!
