ART
Welcome back to a new school year and a special welcome to all our new families. I'm so looking forward to working with your children in the art room. I welcome also Mrs Gonzalez & Mrs McKell to the art room as they will be teaching Art with me in 2024!
Exciting news to begin with, we had a new art room installed at the end of 2023, the portable near the existing art room. Mrs Gonzalez & Mrs McKell will be running their classes from this purpose built art space, it’s a lovely big and bright space and we can’t wait to see all the creativity happening in there! We've also just purchased a kiln to fire ceramic work, this will be a steep learning curve for me but I’m so excited so begin creating ceramic artwork with our students.
We do use messy materials in the art room so it would be advantageous if your child could bring an art smock to school. All of the classrooms have a tub for the smocks to be kept in, so students can leave them here at school. Please remember to clearly write your child’s name on the smock so they can easily find it. Smocks can be purchased cheaply at stores like Kmart or Target, however if you can’t find one an old oversized T-shirt would be okay, however keep in mind that they’re not water-proof.
What have we been learning in the art rooms at the start of the year? Students have been discussing what a good artist looks like and how they can use our PROUD values in the art rooms to become the best artists they can be. Students have also begun creating self-portraits – these will look amazing when they’re complete so watch this space!
In 2024 I am looking forward to helping our students explore their creativity, take risks with their artworks and be confident that any mistakes will only help them become better artists in the future. I will endeavour to share artwork in our newsletters, website and on the display boards in the main building, however I will keep most artwork here at school until after our STEAM Show (an exhibition of our art & science projects) which takes place in Term 3. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me or pop into the art room before or after school.
