Grade 3
2024 is off to a flying start in Grade 3! Students returned to school with a keen eagerness to learn, and excitement to see their friends. Students have familiarised themselves with classroom routines, expectations and values quickly and smoothly. It has been so great to see our students begin the year so confidently, and we are so excited to see all of the achievements and success that the Grade threes achieve in 2024!
Positive Start Students began the year with our ‘Positive Start’ program, where they settled into familiar daily routines and expectations in the classroom and in the yard. Students practised entering their learning space responsibly, as they do after recess and lunch. They also used student voice and agency to have their say in wider classroom expectations - this included for daily circle time sessions, their book work expectations and how the classes should be presented each day.
Literacy:In reading, students have read and discussed the story ‘Mr Huff’. Students focused on the skills of visualising key characters in the story and inferring. Using their own prior knowledge and experiences; as well as clues from the text, students were able to make detailed predictions about elements of the story as well as how they believed the story may end. Also, students' confidence in identifying different verbs and adjectives has allowed them to creatively describe the internal characteristics (feelings, emotions, traits) and external characteristics (size, shape, colour) of characters and settings.
Numeracy:Students have begun the year by building their knowledge of the place value of numbers. Students have been able to identify the different place value columns and their relationship to the creation of numbers all the way into the tens of thousands. Students have also developed a strong understanding that place value can help us to identify the ascending and descending order of number sets.
School Values:To ensure that we set ourselves up for an amazing year, we started our year by working together to create our own school value posters that are displayed in our classroom. Under the value headings; Performance, Respect, Open Minded, United and Daring - we held class discussions where we brainstormed ways that we can show them at school. Every class created amazing ‘PROUD’ displays that will be prominently displayed in the classroom. Well done to all students for consistently showing these values!
