First Day of School:

The Prep teachers are thrilled to welcome our newest members to the school family as our Prep students embarked on their first day of school with excitement and curiosity! It was a joyous occasion filled with laughter, new friendships, and endless possibilities. As they stepped through the school gates, wide-eyed and eager, they began settling naturally into their new learning environments for 2024. The students spent the day becoming familiar with their new teachers, interacting with their classmates and exploring all of the fun learning and play areas around the school. We are incredibly proud of our Prep students for their bravery and enthusiasm as they begin this incredible journey of learning and growth. Here's to many more adventures together in the days ahead!

Green Sheep:On our Prep's very first day of school, we read the story ‘Where is the Green Sheep?’ and then navigated our way through the school in search of the missing Green Sheep! Following clues, that led us to important locations throughout the school, from the toilets, to the sick bay, playground, Gymnasium, STEAM building and basketball courts. The Preps were so surprised when they stumbled upon the Green Sheep making an unexpected visit to our Principal, Luke Abdallah's office, where it was guarding his desk! The students thoroughly enjoyed exploring different areas of the school while learning about important expectations, such as walking together as a class, maintaining quiet in buildings and understanding designated play areas.

Proud Values:

Over the last two weeks, students have taken part in our ‘Positive Start Program’. The program has focused on the school values of being ‘PROUD’ and building relationships with their peers. Each day of the program focused on one of the five school values - performance, respect, open-mindedness, daring, and united. We discussed the meaning of the value of the day as a class and talked about how we could demonstrate it both inside and outside the classroom. We rounded off each day with a fun activity such as creating Performance Superstar Badges, Respect Hands, participating in team-building challenges, and enjoying an outdoor activity. This week, the Prep students have demonstrated united by working together when moving around the learning space, taking turns, and playing on the playground.

Reading - InitaLit

InitiaLit is an evidence-based whole-class literacy program providing all children with the essential core knowledge and strong foundations to become successful readers and writers. InitiaLit is a three-year program, covering the first three years of school (Foundation to Year 2). This week Foundation students have been introduced to the foundation skills of reading. We’ve begun by listening to the sounds in spoken words, understanding and creating words that rhyme. Students have grown in their ability to recognise words in spoken sentences, they loved saying a sentence and jumping into a hula hoop to represent each word! We look forward to seeing students grow in their reading this year!
