Performing Arts
In the first 2 weeks of our new Performing Arts specialist, the students across the whole school have explored the new classroom and brainstormed how to show the Grayling values of PROUD in our actions. The students had the opportunity to write their ideas onto the PROUD posters that are displayed at the front of the room. The students have gathered many house points by demonstrating our values through their actions in Performing Arts…
Foundation students began learning about Performing Arts, specifically drama and dance. We explored acting skills in using our facial expressions/body language while acting as different emotions. Students explored how the different emotions made us walk and talk in a different way.
Grade 1 and 2’s began learning about characters that we know in TV shows, Movies or Books. The students explored a book called ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’ and acted as different animal characters throughout the story.
Grade 3 and 4’s were learning about narrative structures found in Drama. The students collaborated to create a narrative story in class and then took on the role of character or costume designer to make these narratives come to life.
Grade 5 and 6’s learnt about play building and ways to begin the creative process. Students were encouraged to put forward their own creative ideas for our activities. Students used some of the elements of drama to explore play building, collaborated with their peers and began creating the ‘front page’ of our Drama Portfolios.
The first two weeks of Performing Arts have been so much fun and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the Term has in store!
