What's been happening at MRC

2024 - Prep to Year 2 Individual Assessments

Years Prep to Year 2 English and Maths assessments are currently underway. These online assessments are conducted as one-on-one interviews between teachers and students. This approach offers multiple benefits:

  • Meeting the mentors: Students and parents have the opportunity to meet their dedicated mentor teachers for the year, fostering familiarity and building a strong foundation for communication and support.
  • Engaging activities: Through interactive activities, teachers gain valuable insights into each student's Literacy and Numeracy abilities. This early snapshot allows for personalized learning experiences and targeted support.
  • Building confidence: The one-on-one setting creates a positive and encouraging environment, putting students at ease and allowing them to showcase their abilities with confidence.

Prep -Visual Art

The preps have enjoyed their very first Visual Art lessons at MRC. On the first few days, Preps were able to see the art room for the first time to draw, paint and colour. This week students have been experimenting and exploring the elements of Visual Art. Preps have been introduced to shape as one of the elements of Visual Art. They sang a song about shapes and made shape trees. A great start to a colourful and creative school year.

Grade 3/4"s

In Visual Art, Grade 3/4 students have been learning about the elements of art and how those elements are used to create artworks. Students have specifically looked at the element of line and how different artists use it in their work. Then, the students experimented with creating different lines themselves to create unique artworks.

Yr 7 -10 Ready to Learn Interviews

Last week, our 7-10 students and their parents/careers kicked off the new school year with their Ready to Learn Interviews. It was an exciting opportunity for everyone to connect with their assigned 2024 Mentors, who will be playing a key role in supporting students' transition into their learning programs. The atmosphere was brimming with anticipation and enthusiasm as students met their mentors for the first time. Parents and carers also had the chance to chat with the mentors, ask questions, and gain valuable insights into the year ahead.

Year 2B

2B Students have been participating actively to gain valuable experience in teamwork, critical thinking, and effective communication skills that will benefit them well beyond the classroom.

Year 3A

Ms Copeland has introduced Clint the Crocodile to 3A. Each weekend he will go home with a different student and his journal. Clint will have to go everywhere with the student over the course of the weekend. On Sunday, the student will write a diary entry about their adventures with Clint in a shared journal. Clint the Crocodile's weekend adventures turns into a memorable and interactive learning experience for the students in 3A.

This weekend he went home with Ms Copeland and went to Pilates, coffee, helped Ms Copeland answer some emails, and helped with chores.
