From the Head of Sport

Term 1 is always a busy one on the sporting calendar for BMGS. The ISA summer sport competition has 4 weeks remaining and will be followed by semi-finals and finals. All players should have attended training this week and be ready for Round 7 of the ISA competition.

The Swimming Carnival and the Cross Country Carnival will both be held this term and students should be ready to participate and contribute to the point score for their respective Houses.

If you have organised a team for the NSW All Schools triathlon, please ensure that you email me with final details regarding each member of the team.

I look forward to the successes that come for BMGS in 2024.

Congratulations - Hockey

James Reynolds (Year 11) was selected in the NSW Blues side for the 18s Men's Indoor National Hockey Championships that took place at the National Hockey Centre in Canberra from the 12th -16th of January.

One of only three 16 year old players selected in the team, James was picked as a development player and had a rewarding experience playing with and against the best in Australia. With a rough start to the tournament the team struggled against the Victorian and Queensland's State sides, but fortunately drew against the WA Men's side 3-3.

Heading into quarter finals they were up against the other NSW side in which they lost in the last 8 seconds 1-0. This meant, unfortunately, that they were out of the medal hunt. The final games were against the QLD's gold side which they won and therefore qualified for the 5/6 playoff where the NSW Blues team won in a shootout against WA. The NSW state team took the tournament undefeated, which reflected on the strength of the NSW Blues side losing to them only 1-0. Congratulations James and we look forward to hearing of your future successes on the hockey field.

Congratulations - Golf

At the end of last year, Thomas Curtis (Year 9) took part in the Blackheath Men’s Gold Medal golf playoffs. Despite being a junior, Thomas was successful in winning the championships on the day. Thomas is to be congratulated on his success and I look forward to him continuing to improve his handicap this year.

Australian Schools Basketball Tournament

The last week of term in 2023, BMGS sent 2 teams to the Australian School Basketball Championships. This was a great experience for all involved and a very successful week for the 17 Years and Under Boys team, who came home with a silver medal.

Congratulations to all the players and thank you to the coaches and staff who spent the week with the players.

Mountain Biking

We currently have a number of students who are competing in School Mountain Biking competitions. As a result we have designed a BMGS top that can be worn for these events.

The Uniform Shop would like to place an order for these tops prior to the end of term. Could any students who would like to purchase one of these tops attend the uniform shop to check sizing and place order.

Basketball

There has been an amendment to training times for all teams. All except the First V Boys have been now set to finish at 5:00 pm. This means that students do not get changed until 5:00 pm. This will give those travelling by train plenty of time to walk to the station.

Please ensure that if you are not going to attend training then you email mharris@bmgs.nsw.edu.au well in advance.

Triathlon

To date I have received nominations from three teams for the triathlon. You must see or email me prior to the end of Week 2 if you intend to compete at this event.
