Mitchell Shire Council
I would like to introduce myself. My name is Justine Gard and I am the Safer Together Project Officer at Mitchell Shire Council.
Mitchell Shire Council has delivered the ‘Safer Together’ state government funded program over the last few years to the communities of Reedy Creek/Tyaak, Wandong/Heathcote Junction, Clonbinane/Waterford Park and Upper Plenty.
We are about to hold a Mental Health Resilience and Disaster preparedness event in Wandong. (Flyer attached)
Jason McCartney is the Key Note Speaker. We also have a pre prepared spiel if this assists?
Invite: Disaster Resilient Inclusive Communities – Preparing for the Unpredictable
We are hosting a Resilience session at the Wandong Hall on Thursday 15 February from 6-8pm and you're invited!
Keynote speakers include:
- Anne Leadbeater (OAM) - Anne specialises in disaster recovery and community resilience. Anne has worked with communities recovering from drought, fire, flood and cyclones throughout Australia and specialises in how communities can be more resilient in the event of disaster.
- Jason McCartney (OAM) - Jason became a national hero in the wake of the Bali Bombings in 2002 and epitomises the Australian fighting spirit. His story is one of humanity overcoming adversity. Jason was thrust into the hearts and minds of all Australians through his courageous fight-back from horrible burns he suffered in the Bali. Few will forget his triumphant return to AFL football in 2003 when he helped score the winning goal but his ultimate glory was a victory over terrorism and a "win" for all those who survived Bali.
