Year Seven

English

As we delve into Term 1, we are delighted to see our students settling into their routines and embracing academic expectations with enthusiasm. Recently, our curriculum has focused on essential language skills, including meta language and language conventions. Additionally, we have embarked on a journey to understand command terms and their application across various subjects within our school curriculum. It has also been a pleasure to witness students actively engaging with their peers, sharing their diverse reading interests.

In line with our upcoming literary focus, we encourage all families to acquire a copy of "The Simple Gift" by Steven Herrick. We will be preparing to explore this text in greater depth during our upcoming classes. We appreciate your ongoing support in fostering a vibrant learning community.

Science

We are delighted to embark on a captivating scientific journey with our Year 7 students, introducing them to the wondrous realms of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth and Space Science. Through a blend of engaging lessons, hands-on activities, and real-world applications, they will delve into the multifaceted world of science.

In the initial weeks of Term one, students have been immersed in understanding and following safety protocols in the Science laboratory. A highlight of Year 7 Science is the hands-on experience of conducting experiments using Bunsen Burners. However, prioritising safety, students are required to earn their Bunsen Burner License before utilising this equipment. This comprehensive license includes mastering skills such as lighting and extinguishing the flame, adjusting heat, and responsible equipment handling. Throughout the past weeks, students have diligently demonstrated their grasp of safety procedures, successfully passing practical assessments. Upon receiving their license, they will have the privilege of using Bunsen Burners under supervision.

Looking ahead in the term, Year 7 students will delve into the fascinating world of Forces and Simple Machines in their Physics unit. Exploring concepts of push and pull, frictional force, levers, pulleys, and inclined planes, they will unravel the mysteries behind daily phenomena.

We eagerly anticipate witnessing the remarkable discoveries and skills our Year 7 students will cultivate throughout the year in the field of Science. Here's to a year filled with awe-inspiring scientific exploration and exciting discoveries!

Health and Physical

It has been a fantastic start to the year for the year 7s in PE and Health where we have been exploring all things physical health and wellbeing. We have focused in health on the importance of good nutrition and building a diet that encompasses all the 5 food groups. Students have enjoyed discussing their favourite foods and how they can alter their diets to maximise their sports performances. In PE we have been focusing on how physical activity can positively impact our physical but also our mental health and wellbeing and have discussed the importance of regularly raising our heartrate to maximise health impacts. We look forward to the year ahead and working more closely with the 7s in Health and PE.
