Reading

As part of the First 20 Days of Literacy, we have been exploring what a good reader looks like, the types of genres and setting up our classroom expectations and routines when reading. Each class has stared reading their own class novel and we worked collaboratively to set up our classroom library and enjoyed exploring all the different fiction and non-fiction books.

Writing

In Writing we have enjoyed learning about the structure of writing lessons and sharing our recounts about our holidays. We have begun using and generating ideas in our writers notebooks and understanding the importance of setting out our work neatly and ensuring our writing contains the elements of what good writers do.

Maths

In Maths we have had fun exploring the maths workshop and understanding what maths sounds like and looks like along with the role of the teacher and students during the lessons. We have had fun exploring RUCSAC and using different manipulatives while counting, comparing numbers and making bundles.

Unit of Inquiry

To start the beginning of the year we have been working through our First 20 days and creating our Essential Agreements around the learner profiles.

We have recently begun exploring our Unit of Inquiry - How we express Ourselves and have been introduced to our Central Idea - People express important events through celebrations and traditions. Next week we will be having our provocation day where we are introduced to different cultural celebrations and commemorates. We also have an exciting event happening at the end of this term, so watch this space!
