STAGE 2
3C, 3MP, 4A, 4PJ
Last term, Stage 2 students participated in the exciting Mad About Maps program, a hands-on geography experience held in Centennial Park’s newest learning space, The Ian Potter Children's Wild Play Garden. This active and engaging program introduced students to key navigation skills, including the concepts of BOLTS (border, orientation, legend, title, scale), map making, and data collection through fun, play-based activities.
During the excursion, students explored mud mapping from big to small scales, used paper maps to complete a wild play treasure and scavenger hunt, and took part in eco-art mapping activities inspired by the garden’s diverse habitats such as banksia scrub, grassland meadows, and bamboo forest.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our young geographers to learn important skills while enjoying the great outdoors!

Term 4 started with some well-spoken moments as our Stage 2 students took to the stage for their class public speaking competitions. Students presented engaging and thoughtful speeches on topics such as sport, their dreams, gender stereotyping, and even what it would be like to be a queen for a day!
They then rose to the challenge of an impromptu speech, with just five minutes to prepare on the topic “Nature.” Our audience was transported by our winner, Alexa Glavan, who guided us through a calm and creative meditation that truly captured the theme.
We are so proud of all our talented public speakers and every student who bravely stepped up to share their voice. It takes great courage to speak in front of your peers, and every participant should feel incredibly proud of their efforts!
A huge congratulations to Alexa Glavan, our Stage 2 winner, and Elise Contardo, our runner-up! We wish Alexa all the best as she represents our school at the next level of competition at William Stimson Public School. Good Luck, Alexa!

This term, Year 3 students have been learning about and participating in modified Indigenous games as part of their Physical Education program. We began with Buroinjin, a traditional ball game of the Kabi Kabi people from South Queensland. This game is played with a kangaroo skin ball called a buroinjin, the game is similar to touch football and encourages teamwork, agility, and strategy. Students have loved the challenge of running, passing, and scoring while learning about the cultural significance of traditional Indigenous games. It has been a wonderful way to celebrate physical activity and deepen our appreciation for Australia’s First Nations heritage.

This term, Year 3 students have been deeply engaged in reading Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr. Sadako’s powerful and moving story has inspired thoughtful discussions about friendship, hope, and resilience. As part of our procedural writing unit, students followed step-by-step instructions to create their very own paper cranes. This hands-on activity allowed them to connect meaningfully with Sadako’s journey while practising how to write clear, sequenced procedures. Our classrooms are now filled with beautiful, colourful cranes, each one a symbol of perseverance and compassion. We are so proud of the students’ 'never give up' attitude as they folded their cranes with care and determination.

This term, our Year 4 students have been actively revising and learning new multiplication strategies to strengthen their numeracy skills. Through engaging activities and hands-on practice, they are exploring different methods to solve multiplication problems more efficiently and confidently. This focus not only reinforces their existing knowledge but also introduces them to a variety of approaches, helping to build a deeper understanding of multiplication concepts. We encourage parents to support their children by discussing these strategies at home and celebrating their progress.

Students in Stage 2 are creating artworks inspired by John Behnke, experimenting with bold colours and interesting use of space. Their vibrant pieces show creativity and an understanding of how colour and space work together in art. We can't wait for you to see the final products!
