5/6

Ms Brittany Barmby, Miss Holly McGowan, Mr Jared Baum, Mrs Rowena Lytton,

Kate Warburton, Nicole Riley,  Amanda Douvos & Max Keith.

It has been another busy two weeks in the 5/6 area but we are still trying to remain focused on our learning and maintaining a safe and respectful environment.

Next week is planning week so please remember that all specialists will be on one day.

We would also like to remind students and families that as we go into Summer it is important to bring a drink bottle and hats must be worn outside.

Literacy

We have been learning about Anh Do and his life as a refugee from Vietnam. Our students have discovered some of the reasons people come to Australia and the difficulties of fitting in to a society different from the one they are used to. We have been busy finalising our information reports on the First Fleet and publishing these.

Mathematics

Our 5/6s are becoming experts at plotting coordinates on cartesian planes, creating images using coordinates and following directions to manipulate the images they create. They have been learning to describe the changes to their images using language such as reflect, rotate and translate.

House Captains

We are very proud of all of our candidates for their effort and confidence to stand up in front of a large group of people and give their speech. While we have already announced the 2026 captains to the 5/6 cohort, we will officially announce all our 2026 leaders to the school community at assembly next week Friday 5th December.

Today we will sadly be saying farewell to Ms Barmby for the year as she goes and begins the amazing journey of motherhood.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, warmth, and enthusiasm she brings to our school community each day, and we know she will be greatly missed. While we will certainly notice her absence, we are all delighted for her as she prepares to welcome her new little arrival. We wish her a joyful, restful, and exciting time ahead, and we look forward to welcoming her back when she’s ready.

Congratulations, Ms Barmby, from all of us in the 5/6 Team!
