In Week 7, students explored the topic of Shape in Maths. They enjoyed investigating 3D objects and even constructed their own using popsicle sticks and playdough. Throughout the week, students learned key vocabulary such as edges, vertices, faces and surfaces. They practised describing the properties of different 3D shapes and explaining how they could identify and compare them. It was a hands-on and engaging way to deepen their understanding of geometry.

In week 7, each 1/2 class become the proud carers of a butterfly chrysalis. We waited with eager anticipation to see what would happen, daily watching for any changes. During week 8, each chrysalis began to darken and become transparent, allowing our butterflies' beautiful markings to become visible.

Finally, this week, the moment we'd been waiting for - our butterflies emerged! It was interesting to notice the way their wings remained folded at first, but gently opened out to their full size over time. The butterflies initially remained fairly still, but became more and more active, until we knew it was time to release them.

1/2D enjoyed watching their butterfly, Bob, on "Bob-cam" during Bob's time with us, and had some lovely moments where the whole class noticed Bob was flapping about and stopped to silently watch. We held a farewell picnic in Bob's honour, before saying our final goodbyes as we released Bob into the garden.
