Year 9 Darrabi/GIRLs Program News

Darrabi

As we wrap up the year, it’s time to celebrate a remarkable group of young men. Our Year 9 Darrabi boys have reached an important milestone, completing their time in the re-engagement program and showing what can be achieved through persistence, teamwork, and effort.

The recent Staff vs M9D Dodgeball Game proved to be a highlight of the term. The atmosphere in the gym was filled with enthusiasm, friendly competition, and a strong spirit of teamwork. We were especially pleased to have members of the Principal Team participate, whose engagement and sportsmanship contributed greatly to the success of the event. The Darrabi boys were left feeling grateful, acknowledged and with a strong sense of belonging.

In an informal mentoring session, our 2025 boys spent time with the 2026 cohort, sharing tips, encouragement, and a few hard-earned lessons. It was wonderful to see them step into leadership roles and help prepare the next group for the journey ahead.

In our PE sessions, Antonio joined us to teach self-defence. His message was simple but powerful: self-defence is about protecting yourself just enough to get to safety; it’s not to fight back. The boys learned practical techniques and life skills that go beyond sport, reinforcing the importance of awareness, calmness, and confidence. Thank you to Mr Ellison for organising this.

The visit to the Shrine of Remembrance was a fitting end to our history unit. Standing among the memorials, the boys reflected on courage, service, and the sacrifices of those who came before us. A special thank you to Caro, who brought in treasured family artefacts from World War I. The items that were connected to her family tree. It gave students a rare chance to handle history and hear the human stories behind the events they study. It was a moving and memorable experience, and we’re grateful for the generosity and trust involved in sharing such meaningful pieces of family history.

Our Year 9 Graduation was a truly special occasion, celebrating the achievements and growth of each student in the program. Every boy took the opportunity to deliver a personal speech, reflecting on his journey, the challenges overcome, and the friendships formed along the way. It was a heartfelt evening shared with families, friends, and staff. It was a wonderful reminder of how far these young men have come. The atmosphere was filled with pride, gratitude, and excitement for the future.
