Principal Report
Jackie Harris

Welcome back to the final term of the year, before the long summer break. Whilst this is a busy time of year in the classroom, finalising coursework and assessments for reports, there are a number of events and celebrations still to come.
Personally, I am looking forward to the Year 9 High Tea, when our Year 9 students will welcome the residents of Warrandyte Gardens and Chirnside Views into the school. We are very proud of this program that takes Year 9 learning from the classroom and into the local community, promoting positive inter-generational connections.
This is the time of year when schools receive their annual 'Report Card', known as their School Performance Report. Schools are assessed against 'similar schools' for their performance in Learning and Wellbeing. Achievement levels include: High, Improving, Medium and Developing. For the second year in a row, Norwood has been assessed in the top category (High) for both Learning and Wellbeing. You may have noticed a mention in a recent addition of the HeraldSun where we were acknowledged for some of the best results in the Attitudes to School Survey that was completed by 98% of our students.
It is with tremendous pride, tinged with just a little sadness, that we farewell our Year 12 students. The first 2 weeks of Term 2, signalled their final 2 weeks of classes and they were filled with last minute study tips and practice exams.
Although their classes are over, we are heartened to see so many Year 12 students choosing to study at school. Students are welcome to use the facilities in M Block and the Library to work in study groups, seek support from their teachers or find quiet corners to study.
Their final day at school commenced with a BBQ breakfast, followed by a student-led assembly, culminating in their Valedictory Dinner that night. What a huge day! I would like to take this opportunity to thank our students for their positivity and good will towards the school. Their final days were filled with gratitude for their teachers and respectful celebrations. We were incredibly proud of their assembly, the amazing video (thanks Shaye and Jade) and the stunning vocal performance by Jess.
The Valedictory Dinner was well attended by proud parents and families. All students received their Certificates of Completion and commemorative glass. Congratulations to all students on completing 13 years of schooling. Whilst they had an interrupted Year 7 and 8 due to lockdowns and 'circuit breakers', they have been incredibly resilient. At the same time, they have been a cohort that always got involved; be it, sport, College productions, music or leadership.
Students: As you step out into the world, remember this: your education was never just about exams and assignments. It was about learning how to think, how to care, and how to lead. You are not just the Class of 2025. You are the class that learned through lockdowns, that grew through global shifts, and that emerged stronger, wiser, and ready.
So go out there. Be bold. Be kind. Be curious. And above all, be the change you wish to see.
Congratulations, Class of 2025. The future is all yours.
Once again the Spring Show was a successful and well attended event, showcasing the work of our senior students, completing Unit 3 & 4 studies in Media, Product Design and Technology, Visual Communication and Design and Art Creative Practice. All who attended appreciated the collective talent of our senior students, their creativity, detailed folios and of course, their final pieces.
This year the Principal's Acquisition Award goes to Kiara T, for her childhood self-portrait in oils.
