As I write this letter it is a great time to reflect on the final few weeks of Year 12 at Brigidine. The graduation ceremony and farewell was very touching for all the girls and families and in some cases the families' times with Brigidine are now over. The positive feedback we received from parents was a reinforcement of the great work our College does in educating your daughters. My speech for the graduation for Year 12 is below and capped off a beautiful day for the formal Year 12 Assembly.
Good Morning distinguished guests, parents, colleagues, and most importantly, the graduating Class of 2025. Just under 10 months ago I first met this group and I was very impressed by their demeanour and respect. I immediately thought how beautiful this group was and it has proven to be confirmed over the next 10 months. And now, you stand on the edge of something new, something exciting—and yes, something slightly terrifying.
Here we are, at the culmination of your time with us, a moment filled with both immense pride and a touch of bittersweet nostalgia. Graduation is a rite of passage. It’s not just about leaving behind the routines of school—it’s about stepping out of the comfort zone and into the great unknown. It might mean getting out of bed before 8.15. You never quite know what you’re going to get. But that’s okay. Because you’re ready.
Over your 6 years at Brigidine College Randwick, you have been immersed in an education that seeks not only to inform the mind but to form the heart. You have grappled with complex equations and poetic verses, explored scientific theories, and delved into the rich tapestry of history. But among all the lessons, both academic and personal, one stands out as the most profound, a lesson that finds its truest expression not in a textbook, but in a sermon delivered on a mount.
In the Sermon on the Mount, a scripture passage that you have all heard many times - Jesus shares a revolutionary truth, encapsulated in the Beatitudes. Jesus reminds us to be salt and light—to bring flavour and brightness to the world. That’s your mission now. Beyond the gates of Brigidine, the world isn’t always kind. But you can be. Do good. Speak the truth. Show compassion. Be the light in someone’s dark day. But the greatest lesson from the mount is this: true strength is found in humility, and true leadership, strength and gentleness is rooted in service. So as you go forth, I challenge you to lead the way with the lessons from the mount and St Brigid as your guide. Be the women who lead with integrity, who champion the unheard, and who build a kinder, more just world.
This is the best learning lesson we could have ever taught you. It's the understanding that the most significant impacts are not made from a position of power, but from a posture of compassion and empathy. As young women leaving the embrace of Brigidine, you have been called to a special kind of leadership. This leadership does not come with a badge because it is entirely you. It is not the leadership that seeks a title or applause, but the one that lifts others up, that listens before speaking, and that stands for justice with gentleness.
The world needs this kind of leadership now more than ever. It needs leaders who are willing to work with those less fortunate and who know that true wisdom comes from acknowledging what we don't know. It needs women who understand that gentle strength can move mountains. It needs the peacemakers among you to build bridges in a world often defined by divides.
Your years at Brigidine have prepared you for this. You have learned to question, to think critically, and to act with a moral compass. So as you go forth, I challenge you to lead the way with the lessons from the mount and St Brigid as your guide. Be the women who lead with integrity, who champion the unheard, and who build a kinder, more just world. I implore you to be the light that is Brigidine.
You’ve learned to respect your teachers—not just as educators, but as mentors and guides, and let me tell you, you’ve been blessed. Your teachers are passionate, dedicated, and genuinely invested in your success. A special shout-out to Mr Munguia, your Pastoral Care Coordinator; and the Year 12 Pastoral team, whose care and patience has assisted you in your Brigidine years. And to all the staff who made today possible—thank you. Let’s hear it for them!
To our Parents and Carers: Let’s take a moment to rewind about 17 or 18 years. Remember that moment your child arrived in this world? The joy, the hopes, the sleepless nights. You’ve been their first teachers, their moral guide, their biggest cheerleaders. Today is your celebration too. You’ve done the hard work—through homework meltdowns, lost hats, and teenage mood swings. On behalf of the college, thank you. Year 12, give your parents and carers a big round of applause. They’ve earned it.
To all our Graduates: You've worked hard at whatever pathway you took in learning, you’ve shown grit, determination, and a healthy dose of late-night study.
As you enter your final stretch—three weeks to go—own your exit and be proud. Keep your eyes on the prize. And remember: your ATAR is important, but it does not define you. You are more than a number. You are a story still being written.
As Brigidine graduates, you are called to speak truth with compassion, live with joy, and act with justice. Take what you’ve learned and use it to make the world better. Be kind. Be bold. Be you.
I wish you all the joy life can offer. Know that you are loved—by your families, your teachers, and by God. Go out into the world with courage, humour, and heart.
My hope is beyond this day you keep going, shining your light that is you, remember us, remember your sisters who helped you on your journey, the ones who picked you up when things were not going great, the ones who got you in trouble - no names here - and the ones who laughed at the silliest things but mostly the ones who travelled this journey with you.
To the Class of 2025, thank you. Thank you for your spirit, your energy, and for the indelible mark you have left on our college. We are so very proud of you. Go now, and shine your light brightly for all to see. God bless you girls - you have got this.
So remember if I ever see you out you know what I will say which sums up your time at Brigidine for the last time: Be brave, be brilliant and be BRIGIDINE
God Bless
Celebrating Student Achievements
A big congratulations to all the students who have represented the College over the past year with the College being crowned Zone 1 champions for sport for the year 2025. A great achievement for all involved particularly Ms Hurley and all the coaches and students who helped. We were also runner up across the whole of Sydney Catholic Schools.
Well done to our Year 11 students Victoria Campbell, Ava Azemi, Eva Tsonis, and Valerie Kurniawidi - who achieved third place in the state-wide STEM competition, an outstanding achievement. They now will travel to Adelaide for the National titles and we wish them and their teachers Ms Cosgrove and Ms Commane luck for the trip.
Congratulations to the junior Theatresports contestants who achieved third place recently. A big thank you to Ms Whiteman for taking them and training them.
Community and College Events
Years 7-11 Parent/Teacher nights went ahead, and the feedback was also positive from parents and staff. If you have any further questions, please contact the classroom teacher as the first point of call.
Staff News
I would also like to take the opportunity to farewell Ms Alana Mohamed, who will be taking 2026 off to give birth to her second child. In her absence we have Ms Niamh Bennett replacing her until the end of the year (as we have advertised for a replacement for Ms Mohamed from 2026). Our new Year 10 Pastoral Care Coordinator for next year will be Ms Jessica Harper, who brings a wealth of experience to the role.
As any new staffing comes to hand I will keep you updated.
