Grade 1 & 2
Term 3 - Week 9
Welcome to Week 9, the end of another very busy and eventful term in the Grade 1/2 Learning Community.
The students enjoyed another ‘Wheelie Wednesday’ with the everyone excitedly riding around on their wheels.
It was really lovely to see all the Dad's and Special People come and visit us at school for a shared lunch for Father's Day. Thank you for taking the time to come and visit us.
As we have been learning about insects and animals (Australian and exotic) during our Literacy and Inquiry units, we extended this learning by going on our school excursion to the Halls Gap Zoo. All the children had a wonderful time, including those who have been several times and to those who had never been before. Here are the children’s recollections of their special day:
On Monday we went to the Halls Gap zoo on THREE buses. On the bus we slept, told jokes, read books, coloured and chatted.
When we arrived at the zoo we walked in, we had a quick look around and ate snacks and had a play on the playground.
The zookeepers came and took us to see the deer and we fed the deer pellets. The deer were very excited. We went to see the spider monkeys, who were very cute and clever.
We saw cheetahs, wallabies, giraffes, eagles, emus, peacocks, parrots, crocodiles and snakes. We saw friendly goats, tired Tasmanian Devils, cheeky Emperor Tamarin monkeys and a curious eagle.
We learnt so much from listening to the zookeeper.
Did you know that rhinos poo in the same spot every day? Did you know that giraffes are the tallest animal in the world?
Did you know that there are only 8,000 cheetahs left in our world?
Did you know that wedge-tailed eagles give their girl friends a stick to make a nest with?
Did you know that giraffes have the same number of bones in their neck as humans?
On the way back to school, we saw trucks, tractors, rabbits, sheep, emus and cows. Some of us had a sleep, but we were very happy after our day at the zoo.
We wish you all a restful, wonderful and very safe holiday.
Heather, Anne, Claire, Georgia and Mollie.
