Students Embrace Flexible Pathways

Two of our students will soon be featuring in an upcoming Herald Sun article highlighting the outstanding pathways made possible through the VCE VET program. The story will showcase the hands-on experiences and real-world learning that are helping our students develop valuable industry skills and explore their future career pathways.

Brighton Secondary College prides itself on providing flexible pathways that meet students at their point of need, supporting each learner to pursue their passions and achieve their goals.

Chelsea (Year 10) is an excellent example of a student carving her own path. Currently accelerating in a Year 11 VCE subject, Chelsea has chosen to continue her VCE through the Victorian Pathways (VM) program, reflecting her commitment to a tailored learning experience. Post-Year 12, she plans to gain hands-on experience in her father’s business, with the aim of becoming a qualified Grade A electrician within a few years.

Finn (Year 11) demonstrates how Brighton students can successfully balance multiple opportunities. While completing his Year 11 VCE, he is accelerating in two Year 12 subjects and undertaking a VET course. This approach is preparing him for direct entry into university while also gaining practical skills and workplace experience, illustrating the College’s commitment to personalised learning pathways.

Finn has been completing his VET placement at Explorers Early Learning Childcare Centre, where he has quickly become a valued part of the team. His natural rapport with young children and commitment to learning the foundations of early childhood education have impressed both his supervisors and peers. Finn’s enthusiasm for the field recently caught the attention of the Department of Education, who sent a film crew to capture him in action at the centre – much to the excitement of the children, who were thrilled to see the cameras rolling!

Stories like Chelsea’s and Finn’s highlight how Brighton Secondary College supports students in exploring diverse pathways – whether academic, vocational, or a blend of both – and in building the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed for life beyond school.
