In the classroom

Foundation/1

The beginning of Term 4 has been a big one. We welcomed Jemmah Ryan to our class, who is completing her teaching placement for the first 4 weeks of the term. She fitted into the classroom beautifully. We started the term by going on the F/1/2 excursion to Shepparton to listen to the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. We then followed up with a workshop at SAM (Shepparton Art Museum) creating pinch pot birds' nests. The children were so engaged throughout both sessions. Below are some comments about the day.

I really liked the music. Sam B

The music went really big and loud. Bill

I loved being super high looking out over the water. The clay was fun! The orchestra was so cool, especially the Harry Potter music. Billie

I liked pretending I was the conductor in the orchestra. Tom

I liked making the birds' nests. Elsie

We got to make a bird's nest out of clay. It was so good. Evie

Year 1/2

We have had a very busy start to term 4! We all loved our excursion to Shepparton where we listened to the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. We were introduced to the different parts of the Orchestra, strings, brass, woodwind and percussion. We listened to different types of music and learnt how it can sound different when played at different speeds. Zara was very lucky to be chosen to go up on stage and act as the conductor!

We then visited the Shepparton Art Museum where we learnt how to make a bird nest out of clay and added extra things to it to add detail to our creation.

Year 3/4

Grade 3 and 4 are currently studying the novel Charlotte's Web. They have become quite invested in the story. Here are a few reflections on their favourite characters.

My favourite character is Fern because she is kind and loves animals. She visits the barn mostly every day and all the barn animals love her. Fern raised Wilbur from the start and listens to Wilbur and the barn animals' conversation. I would like Fern to be my friend because Fern and I have a lot in common. Riva Gr 4

I am going to write about a really good book... (drumroll)

CHARLOTTE’S WEB!

My favourite character in Charlotte’s Web is Wilbur.

Wilbur is a cute, talented, talkative, funny, loving piglet.

He’s a main antagonist, and friends with another main antagonist, Charlotte.

Wilbur has a big, uh, I mean HUGE personality for a little piglet! He is at least

one month old.

I would like to be his friend because I would be able to go and see him every

 Day!

We’d be pretty good friends!

 I think...

 By Maddie Dare  Gr 3

I like Charlotte. I think she's interesting and she's very smart. She is also kind and she doesn't hurt people. She helps the animals. She is also trying to save Wilbur's life right now, so that he doesn’t die. She likes eating flies when Wilbur's asleep so he doesn't get disgusted. Charlotte's web is pretty cool because she can write SOME PIG and also TERRIFIC. Sonny Gr 3

My favourite character that I would like to be friends with is Charlotte. I like Charlotte

because she is so smart and intelligent. I would like to be friends with Charlotte because

she is very, very, very small, and I would be able to fit her in my pocket and carry her everywhere and take her on adventures. Matilda Gr 4

My favourite character is Charlotte because she helps Wilbur. She distracts Mister Zuckerman and helps Wilbur live.  Jetter Gr 3

My favourite character in Charlotte's Web is Wilbur. He is a piglet and the reason

why I will be friends with him is because he's friendly and he's too cute to die.  Sanjo Gr 3

Year 5

The Year 5 students are reading the novel studies book, ‘The Grandest Bookshop in the World’. Students made connections to the book and their own life experiences. They designed and created a new front cover for the book.

Year 6

For Literacy, our Grade 6’s have been reading the exciting novel Once by Morris Gleitzman. Here are a few words from the Grade 6’s on what they think about the book:

Monica: I like how this book is always interesting, and you want to keep reading more. It is also informative about the past and what happened to the Jewish people.

Noah: I like the book because it is interesting and fun to read. I have learned a lot of stuff about WW2 that I didn’t know about before.

Isla V: I think it is interesting the way that the main character never gives up on finding his Mum and Dad and hope during such a hard time.

Caitlin: I like the book because it shows great history about the tragic events that happened in World War 2.

Ariah: Once is an interesting book and it has a lot of interesting facts about how Jewish people lived during those times.

For each chapter of the book, we have been developing graphic organisers to highlight key events, characters, setting changes and even predictions of what we think will happen next chapter. These posters have helped our students comprehend the story, think deeper into what the story is telling us.

For Numeracy, students have successfully completed their Probability unit and have now moved on to Pattern. Students have also been developing their multiplication and division skills by completing Club 45’s and 50’s every day. Our next unit will focus on Percentages, Decimals and Fractions, which will get our Grade 6’s ready for Year 7 next year!
