Sustainability @ TPPS

We have all been enjoying watching everything bloom into life in the garden this term. Spring has definitely sprung!
The Wurundjeri people call this season Poorneet - the Tadpole Season. The beginning of this season is marked by the return of the Sacred Kingfisher, a migratory bird that makes its way back to Melbourne each spring.
Grade 3 and Grade 1 made a beautiful display showcasing their talents as illustrators. This depicts the return of the Kingfishers and the flourishing of tadpoles as they grow into frogs. We learned that frogs need to lay so many eggs in their frogspawn because many other creatures find tadpoles delicious!
If you would like a closer look at this display, it is just outside the staffroom door.
The Grade 4s created a no-dig garden under the mulberry tree so that we can plant some flowers and vegetables there soon.
They worked very hard to accomplish it in one session!
In Grade 2 we are learning about herbs!
This week, we went out into the garden to find leaves that smell wonderful, and learned the names of some common herbs.
Our super-duper Sustainability Captains have been hosting a lunchtime club for keen gardeners, and it has been a great success!
A big thanks to Mr Jones and Mrs Moschoyiannis for assisting them so well.
Thank you to all of our amazing helpers over the holidays, caring for our six hens! We hope you enjoyed their company and found some delicious eggs for your breakfast. The chickens seemed to be really happy to have all the students back at school again.
