From the Principal

WELCOME BACK

It’s been wonderful to see so many smiling faces back at school, so it looks like our students enjoyed their well-earned break and are feeling recharged and ready for Term 4.

SUNSMART REMINDER ☀️

Although the mornings are still a little cool, the sunshine is becoming stronger, so it’s time for hats again. Students must wear a hat each day when outside. Those without one will need to stay in designated shaded areas. Teachers will remind students to put on their hats and sunscreen before heading out, as once in the yard, they are not able to return indoors.

Our SunSmart-approved school hats include:

Broad-brimmed hats – brim of at least 7.5 cm

Bucket or surf-style hats – deep crown and brim of at least 6 cm

Legionnaire hats – flap covering the neck with side protection

School hats can be purchased from PSW, North Road Ormond. Please remember to clearly label hats with your child’s name so they can be easily returned if misplaced.

Planning for 2026 Classes

Believe it or not, it’s already time to start thinking about next year’s classes. Creating class lists is a thoughtful process that takes into account each child’s social, emotional, and learning needs so that every class is balanced and supportive.

Last year’s Google Form system worked so well that we’ll be using it again. You’ll receive a Compass post next week with all the details.

We ask that you have a chat with your child about the classmates they feel they learn best with and who help them feel comfortable and confident. You’ll then be able to list 3 or 4 names (in no particular order) in the form. Please complete it by Friday 24 October 2025.

You can also find our Class Placement Policy on the school website if you’d like to read more about how the process works.

BYOD Information Night – Year 3 in 2026

Our Year 3 and 4 students have been doing amazing things with their Chromebooks this year, and it’s great to see how much they’ve embraced digital learning.

As part of the transition into Year 3 next year, students will be joining our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program, which means families will need to purchase a Chromebook.

We’ll be holding a BYOD Information Night to explain everything you need to know:

📅 Tuesday 14 October 2025🕕6:45 pm📍Murrumbeena Primary School

On the night, we’ll talk through:

  • The learning benefits of the program
  • Why we’ve chosen Chromebooks
  • How we manage cyber safety and digital wellbeing
  • How the program has supported students this year
  • Purchasing details through our supplier, LWT

Please book your spot via TryBooking or scan the QR code below.

We encourage at least one parent from each current Year 2 family to come along. If you can’t make it, don’t worry — the session will be recorded and shared afterwards.

CURRICULUM & PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE DAYS

A quick reminder that we’ve got a couple of student-free days coming up this term:

  • Monday 3 November – Curriculum Day (the day before Melbourne Cup)
  • Friday 21 November – Professional Practice Day

On these days, teachers will be busy moderating student work and preparing for end-of-year reports.

If you need care for your child on either day, TheirCare will be available.

Welcome to our new staff members

We’d like to welcome two new staff members, Ivy Zhang and Bianca Currie who will be providing Inclusion Support. These staff work alongside teachers to provide educational and social–emotional support to students who require additional assistance to engage fully in their learning and school life.
