The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.

We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.

As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people,

animals, plants and waterways.

We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land.

Dear Families and Carers of Moorabbin Primary School,

Week 2 already done!

Time seems to be flying by very fast. Our foundation students look more grown up every term and are really making huge progress in their learning, amazing year 6 students will be off to secondary school in just a few months. We have many exciting activities and learning opportunities planned for our students this term, including several fabulous excursions and incursions. This eleven-week term is sure to be very busy with our leadership team and staff being involved in planning for the 2026 school year as well as delivering a high-quality curriculum and additional learning opportunities for our students.

SWIMMING PROGRAM

The Moorabbin PS Swimming Program will commence next week for our Foundation, and Yr 1 classes. The swimming program will again take place at the Danny Frawley Swim Centre in Moorabbin. One of the advantages of conducting the swimming program at this swimming facility is that we can walk to the venue. The students participate in eight swimming lessons over two weeks. MPS’s priority is to provide a valuable, AUSTSWIM approved swimming program for our students, that includes water safety, confidence around water and stroke development. Swimming, and especially, water safety and survival, is an important part of our Health and Physical Education Program.

CAPITAL WORKS UPDATE- New Gymnasium is now complete!

I am thrilled to share with our community that the new Gymnasium has been officially completed, and we have the keys and all relevant occupancy certificates. There is an external handrail that still needs to be finalised, this area remains out of bounds until the railing is OHS compliant, but we are now free to use and enjoy the facility.

It was wonderful to welcome all the students and staff in to see the Gym on Monday and Tuesday of this week and to also show our parents and friends on Monday and Tuesday afterschool. We held our whole school assembly in our new gym on Thursday afternoon. It was so good to be in a space indoors as a whole school away from the “elements”, distractions and for James to play the anthem for all the students. Thank you to all our amazing parents that were able to make this special assembly. For the remainder of this term, we will continue to hold and host our assemblies every Thursday afternoon from 3.00pm-3.30pm.

Our school council has engaged with two basketball associations who now hire the Gymnasium every day of the week including weekends, and Team kids will transition into the Gym and deliver their service in a couple of weeks along with our canteen service who will also commence in 2 weeks’ time.

Mr Corrigan is sourcing seating/ pin boards and working with our maintenance staff to bring across all of Mr Yeaman’s sporting equipment so that he can conduct his Physical Education program in the new Gym. As you can see, we still have a lot of work to do!

Below is a link to a presentation that Mr Koval put together for the school and community to enjoy at our assembly yesterday. It takes us through the last 3 years of a “before and after”. I am so proud and happy for our school and our students who are going to enjoy this incredible facility for many years to come. Please take some time to watch the presentation and when you see Mr Koval please make sure you thank him as he did this presentation in his own time but was inspired to showcase our journey to the students.

REMINDER: NO HAT, NO PLAY

Gallery Image

A reminder that all students are required to wear their broad brimmed hats for outdoor activities, this includes recess, lunch and physical education lessons. Students without hats will be required to refrain from play and stay in the shaded areas of the school-No Hat, No Play. Sunscreen is also available for our students; however, they are welcome to BYO and apply sunscreen at school. Students will be required to wear their hats all term when involved in outdoor activities or outdoor recess, in line with our SunSmart policy.

BUILDINGS & GROUNDS UPGRADE OF OUR EXTERNAL BASKETBALL COURT

You will have noticed that the basketball court in front of the main building is now being worked on, we are moving the court so that its not so close to the new Gymnasium steps. Eventually the top layer of asphalt will be removed, and a colourful surface will be laid to brighten and tie it to the running track at the front of the school. We will be allowing the students who love to play basketball during break times to access the new Gym at lunchtimes when the court is completely sectioned off. This will be the final big project for 2025.

HALLOWEEN DRESS UP DAY FRIDAY 31ST OCTOBER

Halloween is almost upon us! With this in mind, Students and staff are welcome to dress up in their costumes.

If your child wishes to wear a costume for Halloween, we ask that all families and students be mindful of which costumes are appropriate for school use and that whatever is worn, children will still be expected to partake in their normal curriculum activities. For the purpose of safety, no hidden faces with masks to disguise their identity in any fashion while on school grounds. Because of this, please do not send your child to school wearing costumes that include masks or headgear that cover the face. No weapons or ‘fake’ weapons, sticks, brooms etc are not to be taken out into the yard at recess and lunchtime.

Please do not select costumes that include any item(s) that represent or could be mistaken for a weapon. No offensive, indecent or disturbing costumes. Offensive costumes would include costumes that are insensitive or racist. Examples of indecent costumes would include costumes that are too revealing, and examples of disturbing costumes would be ones that are overtly violent or gory or not age appropriate.

We also ask that you save your scary costumes for afterschool or evening as we know many of our families will be involved in “trick or treating” in and around our local neighbourhood’s. Staff reserves the right to ask students to change or confiscate any item that does not fit the above criteria. For children who do not wish to dress up they can either wear their school uniform or casual clothes. Our Year 6 parents will also be hosting the very popular “zooper dooper” sale at lunchtime. We look forward to a fun filled day.

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY

Please keep this day free and send a message to all your children’s grandparent’s that we are hosting a special Grandparents afternoon Thursday November 6th 2.00-3.00pm. More information will be sent out via compass closer to the date. We acknowledge that the actual day falls on October 26th however the school has a few activities and public holidays coming up so it was important to set aside a day and time where we could offer an afternoon for our community. We look forward to welcoming as many grandparents as possible to our school.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MS MARGARITA THEODOROPOULOS

We welcome back Ms Theo (3MT) next week after her wedding to her Fiancé. Here is a gorgeous picture of the beautiful bride and her husband, on behalf of all of us at MPS we wish you both every success and a wonderful start to your lives together to always be happy and healthy.
