This Week At OOPS

This week, Year 2 students explored how multiplication and division are connected by using arrays. They identified arrays in wrapping paper and wrote number sentences to show repeated addition, multiplication, and division. This hands-on activity helped students see patterns and understand how these operations link together in a fun and visual way.
The Preps got right back into the swing of things this week with their beloved Discovery sessions. This week the students read the fairytale of 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff', reviewed all the sounds we had learnt in Term 3, began learning about equal sharing in maths, and wrote recounts about their school holidays.
Our Discovery prompts were:
English: What can you see on your I Spy board?
Maths: Can that number of cookies be shared fairly?
Collage: What features did the Billy Goats Gruff have?
Construction: Can you build a better bridge to keep the goats safe from the troll?
Dramatic Play: What might you do when you go camping?
Fine Motor: How can we use scissors to make some grass for the goats?
Today was a very exciting day, because Ginger successfully passed the first stage of her therapy dog assessment! During the assessment visit, she confidently explored classrooms, followed commands, wasn't distracted by food on the floor or desk, and even remained calm with lots of noise and activity. A big thank you to everyone for showing respect and kindness to Ginger as she continues her learning journey here at Old Orchard. After the busy and successful day of testing, Ginger is now enjoying a well-deserved sleep!

Count the birds, make a difference!
From 20–26 October, our school is joining in the Aussie Bird Count — a fun, national citizen‑science event where for just 20 minutes each day families can go outside (backyard, local park, school grounds) and record the birds they see. It’s a great way to get kids excited about nature, learn bird names together, and help scientists understand how our feathered friends are doing across Australia. Families who submit at least one count can even enter a prize draw! Whether you’re an expert birder or don’t know a robin from a magpie yet, everyone’s observations count. We hope many of you will join us in the Aussie Bird Count and help our school community contribute to this amazing nationwide effort.
