Year Three
Spotlight on Learning
Ephesus Community
Dear Families,
Our Year Three students have settled beautifully into their routines and are already engaging deeply with new topics in Mathematics and Inquiry. It’s exciting to see their confidence growing as they make connections between what they already know and the new ideas we’re exploring this term.
As part of Mission Month, our learners have begun planning their Socktober fundraiser to support communities in need. This year, we’ll be tie-dyeing socks to sell for $3 a pair or 2 pairs for $5, with all proceeds going towards our Socktober mission efforts. Stay tuned for more details; we are very excited to make a colourful difference!

This Week's Learning
Religious Education
This week in Religious Education, our Year Three students have been exploring the idea that every person has value and deserves respect. Through stories, discussions, and reflection, students are learning how their everyday choices can protect the dignity of others and care for people in different communities. They’ve also been connecting this message to caring for creation and making choices that keep everyone safe. It’s been a beautiful way to link faith, kindness, and action in our world.
Integrated Learning
In Inquiry this week, our Year Three students have been learning why water is so important for our health and how Aboriginal peoples have long cared for rivers, lakes, and waterholes. Students explored traditional ways of protecting and respecting water sources and discussed how we can continue this care in our own community today. This learning helped students make strong connections between health, sustainability, and stewardship of creation; reminding us that caring for water means caring for life.
English
This week in English, students have been:
Mathematics
This week in Mathematics, students have been learning about division and multiplication. They began by exploring division as sharing and used materials such as counters and base-10 blocks to divide two-digit numbers into equal groups. Students practised both division with and without regrouping and recorded their thinking using Visual, Language, and Symbol (VLS) models.
Later in the week, students worked on worded problems, learning how to decide whether a situation needed multiplication or division to solve it. They also explored combinations and possibilities, using arrays, tables, and tree diagrams to show how multiplication can be used for counting outcomes. Through these tasks, students are building strong connections between multiplication, division, and problem-solving strategies.

Social and Emotional Learning / RRRR
Over the past two weeks, students have been learning about trusted adults and how to seek help when they need it. Together, we explored what trusted adults look like, sound like, and how they make us feel—safe, respected, and cared for. Students identified trusted adults at school and at home, and discussed the positive qualities that make someone reliable and supportive.
This learning is an important part of keeping children safe and confident. It connects directly to the Child Safe Standards and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which recognise that every child has the right to be heard, protected, and cared for. By helping students recognise who they can trust and how to ask for help, we strengthen their voice, safety, and wellbeing both at school and beyond.

AUSLAN This week we have begun describing animals, using colours and other obvious features.
