Year Two

Spotlight on Learning

Damascus Community

Dear Families,

Welcome to Week Two! Well done to everyone for remembering their hats for this term. We have had another fun week full of learning and laughter.

Friendly reminder: please do not send your children to school sick. We have many bugs flying around.

This week we learnt about:

Religious Education: In Religious Education this week, we are learning about different types of prayers.

Praise: This is when we tell God how amazing He is. We praise God because He is kind, loving, powerful, and always with us.

Thanksgiving: This is when we say thank you to God. We thank God for all the good things in our lives – like our families, friends, food, toys, and the beautiful world.

Sorrow: This is when we say sorry to God. We tell God we are sorry for the wrong things we’ve done, like being unkind or not listening.

Petition: This is when we ask God for help. We can ask God to help us, our family, or others who are sick, sad, or in need.

Here are the songs we are practising for our upcoming Mass:

Mathematics: In maths this week, we are looking deeper into fractions. We are finding fractions of collections and number lines. Talk with your child about how we use fractions in the home.

English: We read an informative text about pigs and explored how they went from wild animals to domesticated. Students then created their own pig booklets, writing about the pig's features, body, and interesting facts they discovered. It was fun to learn all about these fascinating animals.

AUSLAN: Auslan is focusing on pets this week: dog, cat, pig, guinea pig, bird, fish and rabbit. Ask your child to show you these signs.

Integrated Studies: This week we are revisiting Rainbow plates and how important these foods are for our growing bodies. We made a poster and we will be making a gift for the grade five students-a rainbow fruit kebab!

Social Emotional Learning: In Social and Emotional Learning, we are looking at the effects of bullying and how we can prevent it. Last term was National Action Against Bullying Week but that was a super busy week so we are focusing on it this week. We also talk about the importance of building connections with people and how that helps us.
