Dear Families,
It’s been another great week of learning and growing together in Year One. Our students have settled back into school routines with enthusiasm and are continuing to build on the wonderful progress they’ve made this year. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to make Term 4 a positive and rewarding finish to the school year.

Important Reminders
Literacy-Reading - We continued focusing on brain and emotions using the book 'Hey Warrior'.
Literacy-Phonics -During Phonics, we looked at the ow as in 'show' and o as in 'go', 'no'.

Mathematics-We continued implementing our Number Fluency practise each day and focused on Addition and Subtraction.

Integrated-Health-This week we designed and made 3 characters to represent the 3 parts of our brain, using play dough.

Religious Education-This week we continued focusing on the Rosary and the Good Samaritan. Also, October is Mission Month and therefore we encouraged our children to think of ways to help children around the world by using our heads to find out about the the world around us, using our hearts to feel empathy for those in great need, and using our hands to take action for them in whatever way we can.

SEL-This week we learnt about Trusted Adults - Part Two.

AUSLAN - This week we learnt about how to sign the object first and then describe its features.

Literacy-Reading - We will adopt the book 'What's cooking at 10 garden street' to introduce our community garden activity at Myuna Farm.

Literacy-Phonics - We will focus on the kn, gn, ch sound.
Mathematics - We will continue implementing our Number Fluency practise each day and focus on Measurement - time - ordering, analog to the hour.
Integrated - We will focus on prep students for our upcoming excursion. We will also plant a herb pot for sale at the end of the year.
Religious Education - We are learning to use the Rosary to pray and reflect.
SEL - We will learn about Respect My Body, Respect My Personal Space. We will focus on the first two rules in the 5 Body Safety Rules this week which are My body is my body and it belongs to me and Private Parts, and we will focus on the other three next week.
AUSLAN - In Auslan we will sign the object first and then describe its features.
Read or watch the weekly book with your child at home (there is often a read aloud on you tube). Talk about what the book's most important ideas are.
Ask your child to retell the story using their own words.
Talk about who the characters are, where the story is happening.
Use the spelling words provided to make up sentences at home or simply a 5 word mini dictation.
Take the idea around Mathematics and ask students to repeat an activity they did at school, with you.
