Arts Faculty News

The Arts Faculty has been a hive of activity throughout Term 3 and many of our events are culminating this term.

Last week we saw the amazing work of the Music Department on show at the 2023 Ensembles Concerts. Students excelled and proudly overcame any nerves to perform on the stage at Ulumbarra Theatre. My appreciation goes to Mr Josh McGuffie and the Senior Music Staff and Mrs Laura Dusseljee and the Junior School Music Staff for their hard work at this event.

I’d also like to thank Shari Williams, Kim Henery, Adrian Hodda, Dave Plathe, Luke Jenkins, Adam McPhee, Jake Malherbe, Graham Crickmore, Rod Smith, Clint Whitsed and the Junior School Classroom Staff for their help with many aspects of the evening. These events are a true show of collaboration and this year the team has excelled.

As well as these large-scale concerts, we have also had some smaller recital nights where students have been able to showcase their learning in instrumental lessons. My thanks to Mrs Jennifer Schatzle and Mrs Stephanie McCorkelle for the Vocal Recital Evening and Mr Kaid Normington and Mr Dave Martin for the Brass Recital Evening. Both performances were very enjoyable, and I love seeing the musical talent coming through the school. We look forward to more of these recital nights in the coming weeks.

Looking forward, we have Arts Fest coming up in Week 8. Mrs Nic James has been working hard with our Art Faculty Staff to organise and display artwork from Prep to VCE level. Arts Fest will certainly be a keystone event for the Visual Art Department with many interesting and varied displays to enjoy. Keep Saturday 9 September free for your opportunity to come and see our students' work for yourself.

To finish off the term, we are looking forward to the Middle School Production of Fame Jr. The cast has been hard at work, with Mrs Joanne Christie directing these aspiring performers. Again, don’t miss this amazing opportunity to see some of our up-and-coming performers. Fame Jr will run in the Black Box on Monday 11 September through to Thursday 14 September.
