Year 4 August Newsletter

Hello Year 4 Families,

We are so proud of all the fantastic work our students have been doing this term!

Literacy

In Comprehension & Literature, we have been learning about the language features of informative texts and linking this to our history unit by reading texts about Australia’s history. In Creating Texts, we have been learning about homophones and compound sentences and how we can use these to improve our writing and make it more interesting.

Numeracy

In Number and Algebra, we have been focusing on improper and mixed fractions and the different ways we can convert them. We have also been learning about decimal numbers and how we can write them as fractions.

In Measurement and Geometry we have been learning about measuring and comparing mass. We have also learned how to convert between grams and kilograms.

Next in Numeracy, we will be looking at solving money problems using decimals to the nearest 5 cents and measuring and comparing capacity, length and temperature.

History

In History we have been super busy learning about Australian History. So far we have learnt about Australia’s First Nations people, Convicts, The Voyage of the First Fleet, Perspectives on Settlement, the Macassan people, The Eureka Stockade and the Gold Rush.
