Year 1
Ms Crane, Ms Conforto, Ms Russo, Ms Harrington, Ms Maher, Ms Ripper and Ms Bowden
We have had such an exciting start to Term 3. Can you believe that we are already over halfway through?
In Reading, we have continued with learning Stage 7.1 of Little Learners Love Literacy program. We have introduced our long vowel sounds; so far we have learnt /ai/ as in snail trail, /ay/ as in play all day and /ee/ as in teeny green tree. We have also learnt /igh/ as in lightning bright, /-y/ as in spy in the sky, and /ie/ as in mmm… pies.
In Writing, we have learnt about how to write an Informative Text. We know that Informative Texts include information that is factual, and that is based around a topic. Students have loved using their knowledge of Heart Words in their writing, too.
In Numeracy, we began by learning about patterns, and how patterns have a core that repeat themselves. This led us to learning about skip counting, where we have focused on skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. The high 5 game we played when counting by 5’s was our favourite! Using our knowledge of patterns and place value has helped us to understand how we can skip count all the way to 100!
We are loving our Geography Unit this term! We have learned about continents and oceans, and we have started to learn about natural, managed and constructed environments. Our Unit has been so interesting and we have done amazing work by using new Vocabulary in full sentences.
Have you visited any landmarks lately? Where would you like to travel to in Australia?
All of the Groovy Grade 1’s that attended the Dinner and Disco had a fabulous time, including our teachers! We had a yummy dinner with the beautiful placements that we coloured earlier in the week. After dinner, we went into the gym which had been decorated with streamers, balloons and disco balls! We loved having the Footsteps program come in to teach us how to dance, and enjoyed showing off our own magical moves! Thank you to everyone who attended this fabulous night! Didn’t the Year 1 teachers look super cool in their Party Time t-shirts?
Birthday Favours
A friendly reminder that birthday celebration lolly bags containing sweets or other food items are not permitted at Gilgai Plains Primary School due to various allergies and food intolerances across cohorts. If you would like for your child to provide their peers with a birthday favour, small toys or alternative gifts are welcomed.
iPads and Headphones
Please ensure that if your child has an iPad and headphones, that they are brought to school fully charged each day, with the Year 1 apps downloaded.
Home Readers
Another reminder that students are expected to read at home every night. We check diaries every week as it does get reported on, on their semester reports. If diaries are lost/misplaced, logging their reading by writing the title of the text, the date and a signature in a notepad or exercise book is fine.
As always, please let your child’s teacher know if you require any support with this.
Thank you for your continued support,
The Year 1 Teachers
