Assistant Principal

Year 9 students attended their Gold Coast camp last week. Despite some challenges on the first day with the airline cancelling flights, camp staff were able to reorganise flights, rework the activities and ensure that students got to experience a wonderful camp filled with fun activities while building relationships with peers and staff. Our students represented us with pride as always. I thank all of those staff attending the camp for making this such a positive experience for all.

Students in Years 7, 8 and 9, are currently provided a laptop from the college to complete their classwork and homework. This laptop is for student use, but does not belong to the student. The laptop is loaned to the student while they are a student at Lalor Secondary College and the student is responsible for ensuring that the device is charged each day for school and in good working order. All students are provided with a laptop bag to protect their device. If a student loses their device or charger, accidentally damages their device or purposefully damages the device with graffiti, then parents will be liable for the cost to replace the laptop or to restore it to working order. If there are any issues with a device, students can report this to the IT department who will determine and arrange the necessary repairs.

I’d like to take this opportunity to again highlight an exciting opportunity for our current year 9 students to access a senior scholarship at the college. Lalor Secondary College offers scholarships in the following areas: Sport, Community, Academic and Leadership. Students who are successful in their application will need to demonstrate that they have excelled in their area of application, have the potential to display the College values at all times and have shown through their application their ability to challenge themselves and strive for excellence.Scholarships with be awarded as follows:Leadership – One ScholarshipCommunity – One ScholarshipSport – Two ScholarshipsAcademics – Four ScholarshipsThe scholarships come in the form of financial support from Year 10 to Year 12, with a $200.00 contribution in Years 10 and 11 and $300.00 in Year 12. For more information about the requirements to apply, please see the year 9 Compass newsfeed.
