Infants and Primary

Infants

Not long to go now until we are ready to impress and dazzle our audience during our annual SMArt and Drama Night. Rehearsals are in full swing, and we are practising, practising and practising our performances in preparation. We can’t wait to show off and share in the fun of the night next week!

Week 9 is full of special events in our school, with our Merit Celebration for many students on the Tuesday, SMArt and Drama Night on the Wednesday, our Wellbeing Day on the Thursday and our Year 12 Pyjama Day on the Friday – what a week. It’s great to have so many fun things to look forward to and a big thank you to all the teachers who work tirelessly behind the scenes making all of these events possible for our students.

Kindergarten

As always, our Kindergarten classroom has been a hive of activity. We have begun learning to read and write digraphs, meaning we can now read and spell even more words. So clever! We also all know how to share things evenly and fairly into equal groups and have practised this many times during our mathematics lessons. Our challenge now is to remember to use these skills when sharing out treats and special things with our siblings and friends.

In the coming fortnight, students will be reading and exploring one of my favourite books of all time, ‘Banjo and Ruby Red’ by Libby Gleeson and Freya Blackwood, which highlights the special relationships we are sometimes so lucky to see between different animals. In mathematics we will be investigating length and other measurements and continuing to develop our clever counting skills. And of course, fine tuning our performance in preparation for SMArt and Drama Night. See you there.

1/2 Class

Happy Father’s Day to all our dads, pops, grandads and all other special people in our children’s lives.

1/2 has been a buzz as we prepare for SMArt and Drama Night. It is coming nearer each day! Students enjoyed adding some props to our performance as well... Don’t forget that we are asking all students to wear the colours brown, green, orange, yellow and/or red for the performance. A mixture, or just one colour is fine.

In English over the last two weeks, 1/ 2 have been exploring different forms of communication such as Auslan, braille, and morse code. This comes as we consider people’s context, what they know, and what they need to adequately communicate. The students have loved this unit as many of us have been able to bring our own context into the discussions and can learn from each other that way. Don’t forget to ask your child to sign some words to you- we now know heaps! Next week in English, we will be looking at the elements of a narrative.

In mathematics, students have been creating equal groups again. As we move through the department units, we have been making more connections in our mathematics. Now, students understand that two groups of items can be equal, even if they appear different, and we can now use our 2-, 5- and 10-times tables to easily add up the amount in a group. Students have been building arrays and representing the amount using the ‘times’ symbol. Next week in mathematics, we will jump back into measurement.

In the computer lab, students have begun using two new platforms over the last few weeks. Students can explore self-paced lessons through the platform of Nearpod, and we will be using this more to extend our learning opportunities in many Key Learning Areas. We have also begun using Mathletics. We are extremely excited as we now have a complete set of laptops available to us in the K-3 building. Although this means we can’t have our incursions to the computer lab anymore, it does mean we can save a lot of time - which means more learning on these fabulous resources!

Next week, we have SMArt and Drama Night (Wednesday night), and our Wellbeing Day (Thursday). It will be a huge week- please don’t hesitate to contact the school if you need any details confirmed.
