Draft Mobile phone and electronic device procedure

Boorowa Central School’s draft Mobile Phone and Electronic Device’ procedures were presented to

P & C on Tuesday night and to all the secondary students this week. Students have discussed the procedures at length and provided feedback for consideration via their SRC meeting. Whilst many students are feeling worried about the change, I am confident that our school can make this transition to a phone free school and that after a settling in period, the students will once again enjoy their breaks free of the lure of screens.

If you have any questions regarding the procedures Boorowa Central School will be adopting I am sending an information letter home next week. This will provide further information. Furthermore, I am available for meetings if requested.

SMArt and Drama night next week

Students and staff at Boorowa Central School have been rehearsing their dancing, singing and acting in preparation for our annual SMArt and Drama night next Wednesday night. The night is a highlight of the year with up to 500 people packing our hall to enjoy a night of entertainment and fun.

If you are interested in attending on the night all you need is a gold coin donation and a couple hours to enjoy the show.

Doors open at 6pm. I hope to see you all on the night.

Note: Our possum family, whilst a highlight last year, have been encouraged to move on this year to allow the students to shine.

Central Schools Touch Football success

As many of you may have seen on our Facebook page, Boorowa Central School had a very successful Central Schools Touch Football final series. Boorowa played against central schools from all over the state in Under 16’s and Opens Touch Football in both the boys and the girls and came home with some fantastic results.

Results:

Girls Under 16’s – Silver Medal for 2nd in the state

Boys Under 16’s - Silver Medal for 2nd in the state

Open Girls - Silver Medal for 2nd in the state

Open Boys – Gold Medal for 1st in the state

Congratulations to all of the students who represented the school with sportsmanship, pride and grit.

Congratulations also to Isabelle Piper and Imogen Pye who came away with an extra medal for being recognised as Under 16’s Girls Most Valuable Player (joint) and Open Girls Most Valuable Player respectively.

Boorowa Central School also competed in the Central Schools final series for Rugby League. Whilst we did not experience the same levels of success as the touch football, the students played hard throughout the day.

A special thank you to Mr Corcoran and Mrs Corcoran for training and motivating the teams in the lead up to and during the competition. Thank you also to Ms Hawkins for driving the bus and Mr Keighley and Miss Bromfield for helping last minute when I was unable to attend due to illness. Teamwork makes the dream work!

Year 6 into 7 Transition – Day 2

Day 2 of our Transition program was held on Wednesday with the students enjoying a taste of secondary sport as well as technology and history. Students went home with key rings and hooks to ensure we never lose our car keys again!

I look forward to seeing the students for days 3 and 4 on 30 November and 1 December 2023.

Community issues

I have had some issues with school aged children brought to my attention in recent times with the understanding that I will be able to assist. Whilst I can liaise with families and support where possible, matters that occur outside of the school are not the responsibility of the school to manage and very difficult for me to do so. Typically, in these circumstances I contact the police and seek support. Therefore, I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce the Boorowa Police officers.

Senior Constable Whitney (Tiegs) and Senior Constable Anderson (Ando) are Boorowa’s Police Officers. They live in our community and work closely with the school to ensure our young people, and their families, have wrap around support. I find both Chris and Tegan outstanding Police Officers, and people, who are never too busy to duck up to the school to lend a hand with any matter. They provide sound advice and handle matters according to the law but with the best interests of the family at heart.

If you observe an issue in the community with school aged children that does not sit well with you, they are only too happy to assist.

They can be contacted at the Boorowa Police station on 6381 3700.
