What's Happening in Secondary

News and Information from Secondary

Our Year 7 students have delved into the intricate world of plastics, investigating their impact on our environment and the role we play as responsible stewards of God's creation. They have learned about the various types of plastics, their biodegradability rates and the substantial plastic consumption patterns here in Australia.

One of the highlights of this unit has been the challenge posed to our students to research and conceptualise innovative products created from recycled materials, predominantly plastics. It has been inspiring to witness their creativity as they explore ways to transform discarded plastics into valuable and sustainable items. In our Science lab, students have had the opportunity to create bio-plastics. This hands-on experience has given them insights into the potential of using more environmentally friendly materials while still fostering their inventive spirit.

As part of their projects, students are channeling their newfound knowledge into real-life creations that contribute to sustainability. From crafting pillows made from recycled clothing and stuffed with soft plastics, to constructing bottle terrariums, doona covers from chip packets, blankets, pot plant holders and various homewares, their projects truly showcase their commitment to reducing waste and maximizing the use of recyclable materials.
