Dear Kingswood Community,

The Year 4 students have been very hard at work over a term and a half, learning how to mix colours, develop new painting techniques and then putting all their prior knowledge into practise by producing a painting of their own choice.

During Term 1, the Year 4 students spent time mixing the Primary colours to make Secondary and Tertiary colours. They discovered the affects of white and black on their mixes and how cool and warm also alters the colour outcome eg. warm blue, cool blue.

The different painting techniques that we covered are cross hatching, sgraffito, masking, impasto, stippling, drips & splatters, scumbling, printing, sponging, rolling and blending. Each of these techniques provided an easy way to develop a certain texture or look for their painting. For example, if you look closely at Ethan's giraffe, he has used masking to achieve the accurate brown patches on the body.

Korey has used sponging to create his fluffy clouds.

Lara has used rolling in several colours for the grass on the clifftop

Dan has used some blending in the water of his painting.

Well done to all the Year 4 students, as it was a lot of learning but the results were worth it.
