This Week the Preps Are Taking Their Maths Lessons To The Streets Of Rowville

Maths On The Move in Prep

Last week, the Prep students walked to the Milk Bar and to the park across the road. This was our first session of Maths On The Move. The students worked in small groups alongside their teacher, the School Maths Leader and our wonderful families. As we walked, we looked for opportunities to demonstrate our estimation and counting skills. We used words like altogether, estimation, total and created number sentences.

One of the Mathematical understandings we explored was that when we count a group of objects, the last number will tell us how many objects are in that group. If no objects are taken out or put in, that last number remains the same. Students also realised that numbers are counted in a fixed order.

A huge thank you to all the families who joined us for Maths On The Move last week, the students were so excited to be learning alongside you.
