Professional Learning for Staff

As part of the College’s ongoing commitment to building our staff’s professional knowledge and skills, several events have occurred over the past few weeks. On Friday, August 25th staff were involved in a morning workshop with Andrew Douch titled “Transformative Tools for Formative Assessment.” This workshop provided teachers with innovative techniques to further enhance student learning. The afternoon provided for a wellbeing focus where staff were able to register for various activities on offer to support their wellbeing and to recharge their batteries as they head into the final weeks of Term 3. Thank you to Nery Soto and the Staff Wellbeing team for organising this productive day.

Secondary Schools Principals Conference

On Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd August, members of the Principal and Leadership Team attended the Victorian Association of Secondary Schools Principals Conference. This is an annual event that provides for extensive networking, exceptional presentations from a range of highly revered educational and industry presenters and the opportunity to visit a range of educational suppliers who make up the marketplace and who sponsor the conference event. This year we had the privilege of hearing from speakers who discussed such things as:

  • The Disruptors Happing in the Educational Sector- Ashley Fell
  • Evidence for Learning: The opportunity for de-implementation- Susannah Schoeffel
  • Moving Beyond the Pervasive Myths of the “What Works” movement-Associate Professor Glenn Savage
  • The Third Space- Dr Adam Fraser
  • The Perspective Talk- Ben Crowe
  • How Digital Transformation Will Change Work and Business Forever- Adam Spencer

These conferences are invaluable as they provide the opportunity for school leadership teams to take some time out from their respective settings to undertake deep reflection and to participate in professional conversations where they have the opportunity to take the balcony view of their communities and bring back further ideas and strategies to support best practice in student wellbeing and learning outcomes.

Learning and Wellbeing Conferences

Thank you to all the families who were able to attend the virtual Learning and Wellbeing Conferences that were held on Thursday 24th August. We hope that you found the opportunity to engage with your children’s teachers valuable and informative. These conferences further consolidate the partnership we aim to create between home and school so that all children under our care can continue to thrive and achieve satisfying learning outcomes.

We are continuing to work on the 2024 timetable to accommodate student subject selection preferences. This is a mammoth task that takes significant time to reach a final version that provides the most accommodating model.
