WORK EXPERIENCE

Congratulations to those students who participated in work experience during the holidays. Nothing but awesome feedback from all employers, and I hope you all equally enjoyed the placement and gained some valuable experience.
Rhiana Willett – Mildura Health Private Hospital
On the school holidays I did work experience at the Mildura Health Private Hospital. I chose to do it at the Private as I would like to pursue a career in the nursing field one day. I learnt a lot in my week there and really enjoyed my experience. It was better than what I expected, I got to observe what some of the nurses and doctors (surgeons) do on a day to day basis which for me which really fascinating. I would definitely recommend going to the private hospital for work experience if you are wanting to pursue a career one day in medicine.
Christian Hocking – Mildura Rural City Council
I entered for work experience as a Year 12 at the Mildura Rural City Council to learn more about the role of the Health department that specialises in protecting the community from hazardous shops offering goods and services such as food, septic tanks, and skin treatment as well as find mosquitos to test for disease.
My first day honestly made me not want to return. It was nice to see a septic tank and kitchen inspected, but I was discouraged to follow the path to get there because I am hesitant on university right now.
I am glad I gave it another go because the second day was much better. I helped find baby mosquitos in the billabong at Merbein and visited two kitchens, a waxing place, and some tobacco stores. It was interesting to have to communicate via a translator due to a language barrier at business.
The third day was more of going to different water spots throughout Sunraysia to find more mozzies which we did not find.
We investigated more kitchens and even re-opened one on the fourth day.
Evie Oldham – Lime Therapy
I was very fortunate that my placement was at Lime Therapy. I chose this workplace as I am passionate about helping other people as well as having a general interest in the Allied Health field. During my placement I was hoping to achieve a greater understanding of what the Allied Health industry is like as well as gaining inside perspectives from those actually working in the field and thankfully my time at Lime Therapy definitely gave me this and more! I would highly recommend the work experience program to all, as I believe it helped me in many ways!
Domenica Liparota – Tankard Dental
During my holidays, in week one I did work experience at Tankard Dental. I felt the need to choose Tankard Dental as I see myself pursuing a career in the dental area as well as find it more interesting and intrigued in that workplace. I was learning on site and seeing many new things that I did not expect to see.
I felt that doing work experience at Tankard Dental was something I expected, there were good parts like witnessing many surgeries as well as bad parts like not being able to do much hands-on work. The whole week was a very good experience and knowing how everything flowed, I highly recommended other students from the college participate in working there and have the experience of it all.
Sumah Foster – Happy Turtle Childcare Centre
In the September holidays I did work experience at Happy Turtle Childcare, it was good for me because I would love to work with children at a daycare center after school, so I spent the week at Happy Turtle Childcare and it was a good experience for me I got to see everything they do each week and I really had a insight on what childcare is all about I would recommend this because it was a really good experience.
Allexandra Lanyon – Mildura Veterinary Hospital
I had work placement at the Mildura Veterinary Hospital, I chose to do work here because I wanted to experience and discover their work ethics and the efficiency of the place. During my placement I was hoping to learn the system of everything and how they treat their animals and consult with their owners. Most of my expectations were met with how quickly they work things, I didn’t expect that there would be so much preparation for each task which was done, big or small, and the amount of cleaning. I say doing work experience is the best way to decide if it something you would like to continue in life or not.
Archie Nokes – Cummins Plumbing
I’m Archie Nokes and in the September school holidays I did work experience at Cummins plumbing in Buronga. I had a great time learning about plumbing and all the aspects of the trade. I thought it was a great idea to participate in work experience to see if I would like to become a plumber. They were great to work for and I would strongly encourage anyone who wants to do a trade to participate in the work experience program. You get such a great feel for the trade and I hope one day I can become a plumber.
