Physical Education Term 4, 2023

At Mackellar Primary School students attend P.E. with a willingness to participate and learn new skills. They are confident, motivated and work in teams with drive and focus to

succeed.

This term, students have eagerly stepped back into the gym and straight into Game Sense and Inclusive Participation. This will be the focus this term for all year levels.

The grade prep – 2 cohort are focusing on modified games of netball and basketball. They are learning about offence and defence and their roles for both. They are using their previously learnt Fundamental Motor Skills of throw, catch and dribble to succeed in these games. The students are enjoying playing these competitive games while being resilient and most of all having fun.

The grade 3 and 4 students are learning about invasion games where they need to use teamwork to score points. There has been a strong focus on moving into space and calling for the ball. The students are working on outwitting their defender by using dodging skills. Students have displayed these skills through modified games of European Handball.

The grade 5 and 6 students are continuing their inquiries through Future Focused Learning. Their focus is on enhancing their own or someone else’s Health and Wellbeing at home, at school or in the community. Students are investigating ways of improving overall health and will create a plan to implement on themselves or someone else. Students have also been focusing on invasion games where they are using movement sequences and applying these movements to basketball. There has been a strong focus on resilience and inclusion and the grade 5 and 6’s have displayed this beautifully.

With the warmer weather approaching, please remind your child to bring their hat and drink bottle.

Warm Regards,
