STEM Report

Hello Parents and Guardians,

As we step into Term 4, students are gearing up for another round of excitement and exploration in the world of STEM. We have a fantastic lineup of activities and projects planned to spark your child's curiosity. Here is a sneak peek of what's in store...

Prep: Students are learning about times and events in the day. They will work to develop their vocabulary and discover how changes in weather may impact their choice of activity and clothing.

Grade 1/2: Students will explore the world of light and sound in this term's Physical Science unit. Students will learn how sound is made and create their own musical instruments. They will also discover the magic of light by identify light sources and how objects become illuminated.

Grade 3: Students will focus their attention on the Physical Science unit, Heat. They will identify different heat sources and learn how heat may transfer from one object to another. Students will work on creating their own inquiry questions to drive their personal interest in the topic.

Grade 4: Students are investigating the natural processes of the changing earth. They will begin by looking back in time to see what our earth once looked like and then investigate changes that have occurred, both naturally and by humankind.

Grade 5: Students will explore the power of mother nature in their Earth Science unit on Natural Disasters. Students will develop their understanding by creating their own inquiry questions and display their collaborative skills when researching together in teams.

Grade 6: Students will learn about the survival of living things in their Biological Science unit focussed on microorganisms. They will investigate how factors such as temperature may affect the growth of organisms and discover how different species can adapt to harsh environments.

Stay tuned for more news throughout the term and I look forward to joining the students on their journey of discovery.
