Welcome to Term 4!

Upcoming learning:

During the next fortnight, Prep students are undertaking learning in the following areas:

Reading	Week 2 & 3: We are reading a range of narratives and focusing on the characters, setting, problem and solution. We are discussing the beginning, middle and end of the stories. We are learning about different punctuation, including exclamation marks. We are learning about how sentences are broken down into: subject, adjective and verb. We will continue to engage in daily Phonics lessons, focusing on the /wh/ digraph and the long vowels /ai//ay/. We are continuing to link our learning to the sounds learnt earlier in the year.
Writing	Week 2 & 3: Narrative unit. We are writing our own narratives, including characters, setting, problem and solution. We are learning about all of the parts and what to include in each, building on our narratives as the week progresses.
Maths	Week 2: Place value. We are exploring what makes up 1,2 and 3-digit numbers, using language such as 'hundreds', 'tens' and 'ones.' We are using place value charts to support our understanding of the concept. Week 3: Addition. We are going to be learning about and applying a range of addition strategies, such as counting on, doubles and near doubles, number lines and place value understanding.
Inquiry	Week 2 and 3: Toys unit. We are investigating Pre toys from 1901-the 1950s and then the 1950s-1999. This will include what they looked like and what they were made of.
Social and Emotional	Week 2 & 3: We are undertaking our Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships unit (RRRR). This includes questions such as -Who am I? -What is fair/violent? We will also cover topics on individuals being able to make their own choices.

News and reminders

Hats! Students must wear their hats outside at recess and lunch times. Please ensure that they come to school daily.
Reader satchels- In between the reader change, please continue reading our decodable book as this will help with fluency, comprehension and blending skills. Don't forget to go through all the sounds we have learnt so far in our phonics books, as well as the 'sound out and read section.'
Heart words- Teachers will continue checking heart words throughout the week and updating them as needed.

Celebration of learning
