TAS & VET Department

Welcome back to another term of design, innovation, problem-solving, engineering, coding, cooking, laser cutting, directing, marketing and endless creativity! We are excited to engage our students back in the world of Technologies at Brigidine for Term 4, 2023.

Term 3 brought with it many exciting events, from Year 12 Design & Technology Major projects being marked, to Year 11 Hospitality Work Placement. Let’s look back at Term 3!

Stage 4 Technology

Year 7 students have been busy creating prototypes for their wind spinners using paper, blu-tack and pins. Through investigating the principles of engineering and learning to use Adobe Illustrator, they will now turn their design ideas into functioning timber wind spinners.

Year 8 students have been working hard on their robot unicorns, from adding colourful decorations to finalising the coding for their micro:bits. It has been a fun-filled process.

Stage 5 Design & Technology

Year 9 Design & Technology have been creating their own mini businesses for the MYOB unit this semester. Students have produced some innovative products such as natural bath soaps, scented candles and fabric makeup bags. The next challenge for these students is to mass produce 20 of their selected products as a group and sell these at the annual TAS Market Day being held in November. Students will mass produce, package, advertise and sell their products to hopefully raise a profit which will be donated to a chosen charity.

Stage 5 Food Technology

Year 9 Food Technology students have been busy working on a fun-filled food design task where they were given the challenge to develop their very own creative movie snacks. Some wonderful combinations have been created!!

Year 12 Food Technology & Design & Technology

Term 3 was a very exciting time for our Year 12 elective students. It was the completion of  Major Design Projects and time to wrap up all course requirements before the HSC examinations began. Our Design students have worked tremendously hard to finalise their projects and have these marked and displayed at the Year 12 Showcase evening back in term 3. Student projects displayed an enormous amount of creativity and innovation and we applaud each and every student on the completion of their MDP.

We wish each and every one of our Year 12 elective students all the very best in their examinations and future endeavours.

Year 11 Hospitality

Hospitality students completed their first Work Placement experience at the beginning of term 3. These hours are a necessary component of their course and provide practical real-life experiences. Valued partnerships with industry, assists students in reinforcing theory concepts learned in class and allows the students to gain relevant examples and terminology for their competency tasks and the HSC examination.

Congratulations to Angelina Papayianakis in Year 11 Hospitality who has been nominated for a Student Excellence Award with SCS. We are very proud of you!

Year 12 Hospitality

Congratulations to Charlize Ashby placed in the top 3 finalists in the NSW Training Awards VET in Schools Student of the Year while undertaking her Hospitality course. The awards provide a unique opportunity to celebrate the hard work and achievements of students.
