Magis report

Shakespeare Incursion

On Tuesday, Magis students were treated to a wonderful afternoon of Shakespeare immersion. Students began the incursion by taking part in a quiz prepared by Claudia Johnson (Year 9), one of our Shakespeare Club members. The Players from the Bell Shakespeare Company then performed the play ‘Such Sweet Sorrow’ - an abridged version of Romeo & Juliet. The action-packed, high-energy performance explored key scenes and soliloquies, analysis of Shakespeare’s language, choices and themes – with contemporary commentary all wrapped up in a fresh, modern narrative. It was outstanding! Following the performance, students participated in a Q&A session with the actors.

Year 7 Magis student and Shakespeare Club member, Rose McLoughlin, said of the incursion:

'It was such an amazing experience. I really enjoyed the creative way the sets changed, and how they used different props to show a change in character. I also loved how interactive the play was and feel very lucky to have been chosen to perform a small role alongside these talented actors.'

Special thanks to the English Department for their assistance. What a wonderful way to start the term!

We look forward to sharing with our College community a video showcasing the highlights from our Gold Coast Tour in next week’s newsletter. We are busy making preparations for our US departure at the end of the month and will be sharing details of our itinerary soon.
