STAFF PROFILE

Name: Amy Van Braam

Class: Physical Education

Why did you want to become a teacher?

When I was in year 7, I started helping coach with the local little athletics. It became a passion helping others learn about something I enjoyed doing myself and sharing that knowledge.

How long have you been at Chilwell Primary School for?

This will be my third year with Chilwell, but seventeenth year teaching. I am forever grateful to be at such a delightful school with incredible staff and students.

Are you Part time or Full time?

I am part time, you can find me at Chilwell on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

What is your favourite thing about working at Chilwell?

The positive atmosphere. Walking in the yard in the morning everyone is happy to be here, parents, students and staff.

If you could describe Chilwell in 3 words, what would they be?

Friendly. Inclusive. Interactive.

What legacy do you hope to leave with the children you teach?

You have the power to achieve what you set your heart to. Somethings might seem hard, but the work will pay off.

If you had all the parents of your current students in the room with you, what would you like to say to them about their child’s time with you?

“You’re probably wondering why I gathered you all here today”

How do you measure success in terms of your teaching / your time with the students?

Children leaving my class with a smile.

Is there something about you that your students would be surprised to know? (Hidden talent? a previous job?)

I chose to go to boarding school in high school and actually liked the food.

Friendly, inclusive and supportive.

What legacy do you hope to leave with the children you teach?

I want the children I help teach to go into the world with the attributes of support and respect for everyone they encounter.

If you had all the parents of your current students in the room with you, what would you like to say to them about their child's time with you?

I would like to tell them that their children are in a safe and nurturing environment and that I’ll do my best at instilling confidence and other life skills within them.

How do you measure success in terms of your teaching / your time with the students?

I measure success in the form of witnessing the growth and actions of each and every student. Making sure to take note on how they evolve as students and as human beings.

Is there something about you that your students would be surprised to know? (Hidden talent? a previous job?)

Not surprising but I’m a big dog lover!
