The weather has warmed up and the last few weeks we have been busily cutting hay. We seeded 60 hectares of oats, cutting 20 hectares for hay and baling 100 large round bales and 400 small squares.
Year 11 students have been very busy carting and stacking all of the hay into the sheds, ready to begin harvest. Harvest should start next week with a couple of 38-degree days. This week we have been finishing off a few Barley paddocks. We will likely begin our harvest program with 400 hectares of Barley followed by harvesting 40 hectares of non-GM and 290 hectares of GM, all depending on the moisture percentage in the grain.
Year 11 students have a very busy term ahead of them, with many training sessions underway. Year 11 students will be undertaking training next week to complete their First Aid Certificate and gain the unit of competence that goes towards their Certificate II in Agriculture (plus it is a great skill to learn). The course AE875 First Aid skillset will be delivered by Central Regional TAFE and facilitated here at the College. If you haven't already, please check your emails and fill in the form and return via email to madison.davey@education.wa.edu.au as soon as possible. Thanks in advance!
Year 11 students will be undergoing a Bushfire Safety Awareness Course which is one of the required courses to be an active member of a Bushfire Brigade. This is a foundation course that covers fire characteristics and fire behaviour and goes through bushfire safety and survival on foot and in a vehicle. It also provides participants basic fire suppression techniques and strategies. All Bushfire Brigade Members MUST
complete this course prior to attending an incident.
Another opportunity that is available to the Year 11 students is the Water Bomber Reloader Training which will be held Friday 3 November 2023 at the Cunderdin Airfield. If any students are interested, could they please get in contact with Mrs Corsini on madison.davey@education.wa.edu.au
A huge thank-you to Mr Laird and Miss Martini who worked all week down at the Royal Show to make sure our sheep were on display and to assist the students showcasing their outstanding skills.
