Principal's News

Dear Parents/Carers,

Hoping you are all well and managing with the various viruses and flu strains that are impacting most families.

A reminder that tomorrow is a Curriculum Day and a great opportunity to keep the children home, staying warm and resting. Team Kids is also available for you to use if the children require care.

The staff will have a PD session in the morning and then begin their assessment evaluations and report writing.

The new Maths Curriculum 2.0

You may be aware that the Victorian Curriculum Authority has launched a new Mathematics curriculum that all schools will implement in 2025.  We have been teaching this curriculum for a short time and it won’t be that different to what the children have been experiencing.

What does the Maths 2.0 curriculum look like?

The curriculum is organised into 6 interrelated strands. The strands group the content descriptions, which provide both a focus and a clear sequence for the development of related concepts and skills across levels.

The 6 strands are:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Measurement
  • Space
  • Statistics
  • Probability (commencing at Level 3).

An expectation of mathematical proficiency has been embedded into curriculum content across all strands to ensure that students develop mastery in mathematics through the development and application of increasingly sophisticated and refined mathematical understanding and fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills.

The concepts, skills, procedures and processes essential to the learning of mathematics are organised under the 6 interrelated strands, in a sequence of development that increases in depth and breadth across the years of schooling.

Please enjoy the learning bulletins that follow and allow you to experience what the children have been learning at school and how you can further reinforce the learning in mathematics at home.

Gymnastics in our school

This week all the children in Prep-2 experienced Gymnastics in the MPC and they loved every minute of it. Next week the program will extend to the Year 3/4’s as well. Thank you to Zaim for all his organisation.

Year 3/4 ERP Presentation

Yesterday we had the opportunity to interact with all of the Year ¾ students as they presented their Education Research projects on their selected country focusing on the people and the cultures. As a former secondary school Geography teacher, I was very impressed by the children’s depth of knowledge and learning and the interactive nature of their presentations.

They delighted in offering their audience quizzes, challenges and tasks aligned to the prevailing culture of their selected country. It was great to see so many proud parents there as well questioning and discussing the selected country with the children. The teacher’s will post photos, reflections and videos in the next learning bulletin.

Congratulations also to the 3/4’s for completing their STEM program from Inspire Robotics. Please enjoy these photos below which capture the final sessions and show how much the children learnt in this coding program.

The SRC PFA Fundraising and executive team: Sylvie, Ben. Helena, Ryan, and Jiho are holding a Casual Clothes day on Wednesday 29th May.

Children may come in casual clothes to school next Wednesday and bring a gold coin donation to support the children’s fundraising efforts for our 140th birthday.

Warm regards,
