Our school chess team comprising of Vincent B, Owen W, Jackson Q, and Samuel G represented the school in the third round of the New South Wales Junior Chess League against Maitland Christian School. It proved to be a brilliant win against formidable opposition. Each team member was at the top of their game and displayed a high level of concentration and determination. It was also great to see Harry G represent St Joseph’s once again. Now our team can look forward to playing in the fourth round of the competition.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) is popular with our students. The PRC is not a competition but a challenge for each student to read more widely. The program involves 400,000 students and more than 2,600 government, non-government, and home schools. The PRC booklists open doors to a rich collection of children’s literature representing a range of books, including fiction, non-fiction, picture books, poetry, and a wide variety of Australian authors.
Successful candidates will receive a certificate if they read twenty books, including up to ten books of their own choice. Please email Mr. Boyce on andrew.boyce@mn.catholic.edu.au if you wish to register. The library has a range of PRC titles available for loan.
The NRL Footy Tipping competition has proven to be quite popular with both staff and students. There is no movement at the top of the leaderboard after Round Twelve. Tips can be emailed but need to be received before kick-off on Thursday night.
Book Group usually meets every second Monday (Week B) at lunch time. Each participant can share details of the books they are reading. Furthermore, at each meeting we choose an author or subject to talk about. All are welcome to join.
